Hi

They are busy installing fibre in our road (vumatel) and I am the only house in my street without a grey box outside my houseo_O Should I phone someone to ask why? or anyone else experience this before?

Why not just ask the guys installing the grey boxes?

they did the installation when I was at work in our street and the time I get home from work than they already gone

I don't think it will be a problem as long as they add you to the coverage map. The install might take a bit longer maybe but I don't think it's reason for concern yet.

is it possible to share a grey box with a neighbour? Will see if I can take a drive home and ask them if I see them

No, you should have one of your own. Get hold of vumatel on social media (twatter) and ask.

My house is the second in our road. My neighbour on the corner has two boxes. For some bizarre reason the installers installed the third house's box at the first house as well. The people of the third house isn't really tech savvy so hasn't bothered applying for fibre yet. It would have been interesting to see how Vuma would sort that out.

maybe see if you can see the guys in the area ask? recently had vumareach trenched by me and also have 2 pipes to my house. think it depends on how the lay the fibre. if the cross a street they sometimes put two conduits incase they get blocked etc?

Do you have conduit running to your property?

You actually don't even need the grey box. My mom had the same problem when she had her fibre installed. No grey box, but all her neighbours had one. Turns out there was a small square Vumatel manhole cover right in front of her wall embedded in the pavement. When they came to install they just dug up a bit of the pavement, installed a plastic sleeve into the ground running to the manhole underground and connected it up directly inside the manhole. I assume whatever happens in that grey box can also be accomplished in the manholes if it is right next to your wall in the pavement.

That's probably how they get fibre to homes without a wall

aah okay I also got that manhole thing in the ground

As long as that's there they can tap you a line, either to your own grey box or direct

The great thing with going direct is that it's impossible to vandalise the grey box if you don't have one. I've seen in some areas some idiots have come along and vandalised an entire street of grey boxes.
