Grey Goo, or Brown Poo

Finding the campaign for this quite boring and annoying, tbh.

Every mission is essentially the same.

I didn't play the game, but the older hardcore'ish players are in agreement with you. They applaud the multiplayer aspects, and apparently the developer will add to the game via patching. My one disappointment with this game is the reviews, it is clear to me that the generation which reviewed this game is unknown to the 90's C&C roots. Also by looking at the Grim Fandango Remastered reviews, they are adding minuses due to the lack that there is no hint system, WTF! don't people understand the mechanics behind problem solving by actually listening, they had a similar issue with Tex Murphy (though there is a hint system) the game was to old schooled, duh! it is designed to be like that and when the reviewers realised their mistake they upped their tally. People expect game genres to evolve, which in my opinion is a mistake, the genres are branching.

I will only buy Grey Goo when the developers add new mechanics to the game… IF it happens.

Well, the Goo are quite unique in how they play, but I haven't played multiplayer yet.

Regarding Grim Fandango's remaster, I dunno which reviews you read. I only read Polygon's and I don't think they necessarily subtracted points for it not having a hints system, but felt that games in general have progressed to a point where the game imparts certain information more efficiently. It's difficult to review a remastered game, though. You have to review it in today's context as well as the historical one. Poor game design will still count against a game today, even if it was groundbreaking back in the day.

To be honest if you cannot see the comparison to FPS evolution you're obtuse. If I was a genius game developer I'd come up with a way to make it better; unfortunately I already have a day job.

Telltale recently revitalized the adventure genre and Chris Roberts the space sim. I'd love for someone to do the same for RTS. If you want to play the same game over, dude like I said it's fine. You do that. I don't enjoy it, and hence my opinion.

Arrogant much ? Lets rather say you stay with your day job regardless, because your making it sound that any one and every one can to game development.

Been doing Game Development for over 14 years, professionally for the last 3, that is how long it has taken to make any considerable amount of headway in a highly competitive market place. So I know a good deal about what goes on behind the scenes.

The point is gamers are arrogant bashing games left right and center because they don't like this or that, and game developers know you often get your panties in a twist, because you want this game or that game to be like your all time favorite game made in 1912.If they could, they would tell you, "Can you do a better job, with the same budget, constrains, staffing, ect same quality art work" ? "Then be my guest, if not I suggest you go else where and buy some other game you might like better.

The simple fact of the matter is, you think it's easy.Well I just finished off a demo FPS game, just a single level demo, for a software showcase on steam. That has taken over 2 months. In fact I wasn't even finished with the first project when I got a second project to work on which needs to be completed with in the weekend and had less that a month deadline. Basically me saying, please show me how you can do it better, or STFU in a polite and sweetest way possible......Everybody's a critic.....ne

No, if you cannot properly explain the evolution you want to see, then you're obtuse.

You want an open-world RTS? You mean a 4X, of which there are plenty? That's judging by your FPS comparison. Unless the lights are finally going to go on and you're going to realise that comparing two completely different genres doesn't work.

There are tons of RTS games that shook up the formula. I even helpfully pointed a few of them out, to which you responded that they didn't stick to the genres roots enough. So is there a lack of evolution in the genre or not? You can't have it both ways.

I had a quick read through Polygon's review and it's more in line with what I wanted to read. I do generally agree with you, as with Polygon's summary:

For the rest of us, it isn't hard to see why Grim Fandango has achieved its hallowed place in video game history. It's beautiful, it's funny, it's capital "C" cool. But as someone with no attachment to the original, it's hard not to wish for a version that makes it easier to find the brilliance without climbing through so many caveats.

Then again,

Games have had 17 years to get a lot better about communicating that sort of thing, but Grim Fandango Remastered isn't interested in putting glowing arrows on the ground to help you find your way.

That is Tim Schafer for you.

In truth, the game never sold as expected back in the day, it rather claimed a cult classic status, the target market... diminished. The GrimE engine was limited and Tim wanted two more years to work on the engine, but it was his last days with LucasArts. Remastering the game and throwing it onto online distribution channels are a daring task. Anyhow... back to on-topic:

Oh so same as me.

;)

Thanks for letting us know about what you do. Go copy a game from 13 years ago. It'll be a true achievement. That seems to be your stance.
My work gets criticized regularly, and rightly so. Nothing is perfect. If you can't take a bit of heat, get out of the kitchen. I say this in a polite and sweetest way possible.

Let me put it to you simple. Warhammer's style of RTS is to Starcraft style RTS in a similar way that Call of Duty Shooter is to Max Payne shooter. They aren't the same. Maybe you'll get it, maybe you won't but I won't argue about it further.

You seem to love the game and that's great. Really it is. You also seem to have taken exception that I don't. Accept that I differ from that opinion. I find it bland and un-inventive. And gave valid reasons why. If you can't understand those reasons, we'll c'est la vie.

Oh really come on you can't be that noobish and tarded, lets see pretty much every possible genre and gameplay mechanics, has made it's way from some simple game back in the early 90's and 2000's.
Pretty much every RTS game now days uses game play mechanics first used Dune II.

Same applies to every other genre out there, the game that started it all ect...in order to fall into that genre category you need the core concepts of the genre in order to be classified an RTS. RTS has come along way and the core concepts have not changed at all, just adding new flashier graphics ect.

Goo clearly has old school in theme in mind and as such if your were paying any attention in class, retro gaming has been a relative big thing on steam and else where, there is a large market for retro gaming or games made to look like old school.
The concept is sound and provides a healthy cash flow, with this specific "themed" games in mind.

Game developers do what works and know what will be able to get money in quickly, it's not really rocket science either, the expenses of creating a completely new engine and or game play mechanics for smaller game studio's is near impossible to do.
In order for example you would want a competing product for WOW, a game studio has put that figure at 3 billion dollars to develop a product able to compete with WOW, that still excludes advertising among other things.

3 billion dollars ? Which publisher in their right mind will fund a project like that, as the game studio's are often not the ones with the cash flow to support such a venture.Staff turn over in the market is the highest of any professional careers one can do, so you don't like the fact that they copied what other games copied from some where else, which had the original idea?.

Seriously what a narrow minded tool you will be if you would to walk into a game developers conference with that attitude, "achievement" according to gamers is pushing all the known boundaries of graphical advances and be little any thing else that is not on par or graphical superior to "their" favourite product, how narrow minded and easily pleased is gamers then with the prospects of owning a game that their hardware can't even properly run it with all the settings set to max, and then have the geek to smirk at any thing else.

So no sir, you are entering an argument that you will fail to win by any margin unless of course you can prove otherwise.Copying ideas of some thing done 13 years back, then you need to inspect your game collection much more closely as 99% of them owe their ideas to some other game.I suggest going to a corner over there and piss all over it instead of some thing you don't like because obviously they are wrong.

Nothing rings more true in game development, "If it ain't broken, don't fix it"!

You have that COD speak. Couldn't read past the first sentence.
How do I have COD speak, if you didn't manage to read past the first sentence. ;) Besides I don't waste my time on COD, last time I played that was number 1 and number 2 the rest lost the plot and chose money over game play.

If you going to diss a game, be sure there is a reason to diss a game, or else you are just a another sensationalist noob and tard....period, lets face it couple of people already see what a moan gat you are for no good reason...besides gaming is an acquired taste, I dislike RTS games, the last RTS game I enjoyed was the settlers II back in late 90's, go figure an original RTS you likely didn't even know existed.

First sentence of your previous post:
Oh really come on you can't be that noobish and tarded

You are in pretty deep to not realize how you speak.
By a couple, you mean one other guy that likes the game and cannot fathom why someone dislikes it. Breaks my heart to get so much hate.

By all means dislike a game, calling poo because you don't like, doesn't mean it is, which is my beef with you. I don't Like RTS, but you don't see me going about calling it fecal matter, do you ?

Positive (349) vs 79 negative reviews on steam.
http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/grey-goo (score 78)
http://www.pcgamer.com/grey-goo-review/ (score 82)
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/01/23/grey-goo-review (7.6)

Basically the internet is saying it's cool that you dislike the game, each to his own, calling it poo on the other hand disagrees with rest of the internet.

Word of advise, do a proper review with a break down of likes and dislikes, and stop equating stuff to fecal matter unless you have the material and toilet paper to back it up.
