Ever heard of Covid 19?Why did greyhound and citiliner really shut down? I been using greyhound for 3 years and never saw a sign they was struggling in any way
Some people have been living under rocks.Ever heard of Covid 19?
I am sorry but covid affected lots of companies including Intercape and eldo coaches. And they still standing. It's not covid. Maybe it was the final nail in the coffin but it's not the reasonEver heard of Covid 19?
It's the reason but it isn't the reason? What?I am sorry but covid affected lots of companies including Intercape and eldo coaches. And they still standing. It's not covid. Maybe it was the final nail in the coffin but it's not the reason
The passenger bus lines are shutting down after operating at significant losses for a number of years, worsened by reduced travel due to Covid-19 restrictions, the closure of borders with Mozambique and Zimbabwe, as well as the restriction of bus occupancy numbers.
There is it. Number of years. What I want to know is things that lead to this? How come they was running at a loss for years compared to rivals? It's the reason but it isn't the reason? What?

Expensive? I know the expensive to buy that's true, I contacted marcopolo for price of their g7 double decker and they said 7.2 million basic price. But we're talking about companies old enough to have grandkids. Surely they must have saved enough capital to take care of these buses and businessAnd there are new companies coming in. Those buses is very expensive and expensive to operate. I always use the intercape one.
Let's be honest, only greyhound went under. Only greyhound. That's odd. Even young Africa people mover is still alive.I would guess a combination of Covid19 and then bad management somewhere after that during the different lockdown levels where inter provincial travels were not allowed.
Some bus operators made it work and some didn't
Yup, pretty weird heyLet's be honest, only greyhound went under. Only greyhound. That's odd. Even young Africa people mover is still alive.
Yes, he is staying at his big holiday home, with his two Ferrari's. Okay not true, but maybe they made a bad business choice, or invest in mirror trading.Yup, pretty weird hey
Do you know who was in charge of operations last year at Greyhound?
Would love to hear their side of the story
But still, other companies have not had the same situation and have been good these past 7 years. The only thing that made me suspicious about greyhounds profitability was their prices. Travelling between plk and pta, it was regularly 250 220, depending on discounts. That's too low. Cheaper than even taxi. Intercape doesn't do that. I payed 310 on Friday. Taxi is 260Gary Chaplin, the CEO of KAP closed Greyhound down after they were running at a loss for several years, maybe Covid19 was just the last nail in the coffin.
Greyhound bus service has blamed its closure on the impact of Covid-19 and travel restrictions. But the company appears to have suffered operating losses for years.

I think the holding company KAP was saving Greyhound each year with bailouts as they did mention the company was troubled for a few years already. But still, other companies have not had the same situation and have been good these past 7 years. I'm sure it'll be revealed one day. I heard the global parent company just decided to take money from SA operations to its UK companies during the pandemic. Guess Africa doesn't matterYup, pretty weird hey

Now that would not surprise me as we go further into Junk Status each year thanx to the political situation in this countryI'm sure it'll be revealed one day. People would have payed extra high prices. Especially for such a household name. Not like we have much of a choice either. I remember being in a taxi. I open the window but person behind me complains. Then a women changed her baby's pampas on my brand new R500+ bag. ImagineI think the holding company KAP was saving Greyhound each year with bailouts as they did mention the company was troubled for a few years already.
When Covid19 hit all their companies took a knock and they decided to cut the rope on the ones that were making the biggest loss.
Thats just my hunch and what I would have done if I was a CFO
