Storyline
Based upon the novel "The Good Shepherd" by C S Forester, this is the thrilling story of the leader of an Allied convoy crossing the North Atlantic in 1942 as he faces relentless attack by a Nazi submarine wolf pack. The leader of the convoy's destroyer screen is a US Navy commander making his first Atlantic crossing. The story focuses on the his command responsibility as he fights the cold, the relentless night, the brutal sea and his deep fatigue as he chases down the attacking submarines in the deadly game of cat and mouse. The exciting story, a thrilling ride-along with the beleaguered captain, so deeply portrays the elements of battle command that for a long period of time the book was used as a text at the US Naval Academy

Watched it this weekend - was a great movie.
Contrast this with Das Boot - the other side ......

Great movie. Watched it last night.

There's a Clarkson special called PQ17: An Arctic Convoy Disaster wherehe looks at one of the one of the darkest days in Naval Maritime history when a convoy heading to Russia was swarmed upon by the Luftwaffe & U-boats. Highly recommended.

Reviews have settled from it's release on Friday.

7.1 is a very fair accurate score imo.

Movie itself is one of the "easiest" war movies I've seen in a while. Short running time, direct story.

PS: Recommended to watch with subtitles on for maximum impact of the orders/commands passed around at a rapid pace.

Stumbled on this last night, I loved every minute of it.

About as real like as the easter bunny, sub's taking on destroyers on the surface, sub's running around on the surface amongst an armed convoy, right/left full rudder not starboard/port full rudder..... ya ok

Am I the only one, without an apple TV plus subscription?

Maybe you should learn some nautical terms before making stupid comments. Left or right are nautical terms that mean specific things other than port and starboard.

RIGHT (LEFT) FULL RUDDER usually means 30 degrees on the rudder angle indicator.

HARD RIGHT (LEFT) RUDDER means put the rudder over to the right the maximum degrees allowed by that class of ship.

RIGHT (LEFT) STANDARD RUDDER varies on different ship classes. It is the designated number of degrees of rudder angle that causes the ships of that class to turn within a prescribed distance, called the ship's standard tactical diameter. You must find out what standard rudder is on your ship.

Here the movie got it right....and wrong. The most common U-boat attack during the early years of the war was conducted on the surface and at night.

This period, before the Allied forces developed truly effective antisubmarine warfare tactics, which included convoys, was referred to by German submariners as "die glückliche Zeit" or the First Happy Time.

So, yes...a U-boat would do surface attacks at night, but would never attack a destroyer on the surface. A destroyer would sink it within minutes.

Wrong...see @Dairyfarmer post to see exactly how wrong you are.
