Grid Computing

Don't know if this is the correct sub-forum to ask about this but here it goes anyway.

I'd like to know if anyone has any experience or knowledge about grid computing. For example what application you had used it for and what other (cool) applications are possible with grid computing.

Oh and how work intensive is making a simple application , say data retrieval, with grid computing.

Smells like a COS498X student ..

Yeah I'm a student, but not a COS498X. If you want to know why I'm asking is that we are given topics for a final year report and grid computing seems like something cool to do, but the current application which is suggested is something I am not interested in. So if I can find a cool application and suggest that rather then I may do it.
