It's a sad day when one has to resort to this, but with grocery costs still rising and becoming increasingly one of people's largest monthly expenses, I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread where people can post really good grocery deals they have seen, so that others may benefit from them :)

So, post :
1) Item
2) Normal Price
3) Sale Price
4) Shop and exact location (see if you can tell if it is specific to that store or region, as it sometimes is)

This would be especially useful for bulk items, where the savings can be considerable.

There we are, use it, don't use it ;)

I shall start

Item: Flora Margarine 1.2kg Tub
Normal price: R36.99 (for 1KG)
Sale price: R29.99
PicknPay Gardens, Waterfront, Canal Walk Cape Town

Supawipes dishcloths (blue)
Normal Price: Around R14 for 6
Sale Price: R39.99 for 50
PicknPay Gardens, Cape Town

Grocery Specials?:D
good thread! Keep it up.

Point of advise. When its a real bargain, to maximise benefit, buy supply for a few months depending on use. Thats the real saving part.

Indeed. Good advice.

Like the dish cloths I bought - we didn't even need any but I saw the sense in buying in bulk and not having to buy again probably for the rest of the year - it all adds up :)

So why ain't we just using The MyBB Shopping & Price Watch thread? I know I've been posting all the gooooood specials there. Dunno, just a suggestion. :p If I see a special I'll just end up posting it here and there anyways.

I saw that but I thought it's focus was a little different and the first page is a bit cluttered with long detailed price comparisons. This thread is more for short posts about specific specials/savings, I think anyway :)

Anyone go to FruitnVeg City at all? Their website has no prices and I have heard good things about the place...

Absolutely nothing stopping you from posting the same stuffs you wanna post here, there. I've been doing just that since...forever.

Well, I know about it...There is one just around the corner. But I have never bothered going in there...What wonders await me, then? :)

The one in Willow Bridge is outstanding. Apart from that, the rest are pretty rubbish imo. I'd much rather get fresh produce from Woolies - lasts FAR longer than any F&V stuff, so it makes it worth the little extra you pay.

There are cheaper veggie stores than Fruit & Veg you must just take the time to try find them. Up here there is Rebel Farmers just off Hendrik Potgieter that is a lot cheaper, and also another veggie store just behind the Brightwater commons that is a lot cheaper. I think Fruit & Veg have specials on Wednesdays, like a few buy one get one free promotions, but that could just be the one near me.

hahhahaa... you remind me of my mother... buying one item from a different shop that's about 1km away from the other store, and she still have to drive there... i always ask her what is she saving becuase that very same R2 rand she is running away from she uses in petrol... hahahah

Fruit & Veg has some big special on their meat, specialy the steaks and boerewors. They dont just sell fruit.

You asume they drive there for one item? LOL.

Got a 10 pack marked down 14watt Osram energy savers at Builders Nortgate for R131.76. Loose they sell for R34 each. There was only three still left. Look at the mark down tables.

they opened a new fruit n veg in sw - well they revamped the old one rather. now it's the best supermarket for price and quality (woolies is better quality of course but too expensive).

We found the best value for meat is to go to the farms directly. we have a pork farm with a butchery near here - it's a fraction of the shops' prices.

Haha, yes that is something that we have to bear in mind. The prices I have quoted so far have been from PicknPays within 5 mins drive from me :)

Hmmm, that is a massive saving. The 14W ones are the 75W equivalents. I am in the market for them at this very moment,...
