I'm all for open standards and it appears MS are making strides towards supporting them in IE 7 as well as in the web services arena. What I meant in the above post is that while there are still so many sites that are designed for IE only I'm going to stick with IE (as will a large percentage of general users). I don't have the energy to complain to every webmaster that their site doesn't render correctly in Firefox, I'll leave that up to you guys

Also if what Skint said about moz-border-radius is true it would appear Mozilla are introducing their own standards, double-edged sword perhaps?

I don't have the energy for that either - I doubt that many foragers bother to contact the webmaster & complain about how any specific site doesn't conform...

So, how about we launch a campaign to convince the almighty Google to rate sites according to W3C standards conformance...? I'm sure that would have more clout than visitors winging individually - especially if it is a site that they have to use on a regular basis [e.g. sarsefiling.co.za]

Perdition - Mozilla created their own CSS commands to allow them to use the technology for the UI of Mozilla. All of the commands follow the W3C's standards for vendor specific tags, which is why they all begin with -moz.

The border-radius command will be part of CSS3 which is yet to be released... however it was released in Gecko like 4 years ago, and to my understanding FireFox uses the Gecko rendering engine?! I don't really know whats up with that, but.. what I do know is -moz-border-radius works for me and it looks good, amongst many other things in FireFox..

Microsoft stopped working on MSIE for Mac ages ago – the last update was back in 2003 - so I’ve used most of the alternatives at one time or another. My new dilemma since Tiger came out – Firefox or Safari2.

There's very few sites that won't render in firefox these days - I'd say 99% of the sites I visit render perfectly.

Besides, any developer/designer who doesn't code to ensure thier websites at least function in alternative browsers is a dufus and deserves not to be supported !

what do u think of tiger bwana? i have 10.3.8 on my mac, and am not sure if the upgrade is worth a thousand bucks...

I am that vindictive - if it doesn't even attempt to comply with w3c standards it is a site I don't bother visiting again [unless for some reason I have to use it regular like & have no other practical/feasible option]...

I'm slightly less vindictive and guilty of not strictly adhering to w3c standards in my website designs !

So long as it renders in the top browsers and is surfable in lynx, I'm happy !

Reason being ? - simple economics ! - spending an extra 20 hours making sure my exciting client websites (such as a website on plastic pallets) render on all the latest cellphones is not something I can afford to do - especially if the cellphone manufacturers themselves don't adhere to the rendering standards !



If the content of my site designs can be viewed as text in the *nix terminal browser, lynx, I've done a good job. I use ALT tags on all my images and always offer text only links on all designs - it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside that I'm doing my bit to keep the web open !

Its nice and defiantly worth the bucks but if you're the cautious type perhaps wait until 10.4.1. Have a look at Macfixit.com if you've got concerns. I've had no real problems yet apart from a corrupted sparse image I keep my emails on.

Slightly back on topic – Safari 2 is rapidly becoming my browser of choice which is odd as I hated it in 10.3.
