Groupon Windows 8

Groupon is generally full of sht...stay clear.

There is no "full retail" for win 8. Only upgrade and sys builder.

Uhm, I bought Win8 digital version for R135 last week. Nowhere near groupon though.

In the text they refer to it as 'Windows Pro Upgrade Full'. As opposed to a partial upgrade version?

Voicy.....Where did you get it for that price?

https://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/en-ZA

They say "buy a Win7 pc and get Win8 for cheaper." Except, they don't ask for the Win7 OEM, they just want you to have bought a new pc recently that has Win7 on. All the info they need is "shop / brand / model" which you can *cough* get from any Incredible Connection pamphlet. Not that I encourage this.

Once that happens, you get a promo code via email as well as a link to download an upgrade assistant file. Then you just follow the steps and run the upgrade assistant and follow all the steps right to the end, even after it says the price is $39.99 - after that it allows you to enter your promo code, dropping the price to $14.99 or some such.

You then get a Win8 OEM key and the upgrade assistant will offer to download Win8 and upgrade your pc. You can stop it or let it pull the 3GB data. After which, it'll ask if you want to upgrade or make an .ISO file (to burn to dvd)

Generally speaking I would never get anything from GroupOn but it does state on the actual website: Windows Pro Upgrade Full Package Product.

But yeah, it does reek of rubbish. We sell Windows 8 Pro at the store where I work for R599. So I fail to see how this is a deal when you can walk in to a brick and mortar store and get it for the same price.

I thought they closed the loophole?

Seems like Groupon is the flavour of the day for some forum members. My take, if you do not like a special, don't buy it. On the odd occasion a great one appears, I then buy it.

It ALSO states on the website in the smaller print:

WHAT YOU GET:

Windows Pro Upgrade Full Package Product

AND

Requires PCs running Windows XP (SP3), Windows Vista, or Windows 7

So again, they are selling the exact same thing from last time, definitely the UPGRADE . I would not trust this deal one bit.

Groupon is clearly and deliberately misleading consumers again by making liberal use of the words "full" and "upgrade" to confuse us. Their "full" seems to mean it's a "full package" .

Have reported them to the ASA again for this one...

Not that I expect the ASA to do anything, bunch of toothless prats that they are.
