Last night I noticed that after unplugging my S2(17 months old) from a full charge the battery charge indicator was flashing (never happened before) restarted about an hour later and the battery was at 60%. Did a battery pull but it didn't help. This morning it was at 10-20% but seemed to discharge much slower at that capacity. I thought it might be a dirty USB connector and cleaned it best i could, still no fix. I also tried my Nexus 7 charger which charged it really fast but the battery is still dropping heavily after every reset. Anyone know what could be the problem, I'm thinking either:

Something with the ROM (Alliance 4.0.4) but Iv'e had it for months and no problems)

Dirty USB connector (but I did clean it and take out some dirt)

Battery is going (Is thsi possible after 17 months, seems a bit short. Is there any app to test this?)

Thanks for any help

Check to see if the battery is swollen. Try to spin it on a table, if it spins , it is and will need to be replaced. I had to replace mine after just over a year. They said that using the phone while charging it causes this.

Eish, not recommended to use the nexus 7s 2a charger opposed to the Samsung 0.7a charger... :(

It doesn't look swollen, but it seems I need to replace the battery and the USB chip board to fix it, not sure if its worth it though if it works out to be quite expensive.

Just used it once to see if my charger was giving the issues, I think using the higher amp charger shortens the battery lifespan, but gives you faster recharges

I've never been the greatest fan of Android 4.0.4 though- had massive battery drain with it. Do you have BBS installed?

Don't think that a higher amperage affects the battery. The port can only draw current at certain rate, and the device is configured within the kernel properties to only draw current at a max rate.

BBS? Not sure what that is but don't think so, sent it in for repair though, now I just need to find a new battery

Sorry, my bad. BetterBatteryStats. Pinpoints wakelocks that prevent your CPU from sleeping when not used. Very useful app that normally identifies 99% of battery drain issues.

Well I read a thread on XDA which had the exact same issues as me, some people managed to fix it by cleaning the USB port but others had to replace the USB chipboard and get a new battery. So I sent mine in today, of course the repair guy tried to insist it was the custom ROM causing it  so I had to basically order them to change out the chipboard

The faulty USB clipboard was my second guess... So hopefully that fixes the problem for you.
