GT to Launch ADSL

*shakes head*

If it's quoted in US$ it means those lucky devils are paying just over half of what we are paying. (Approx R593) It doesn't say anything about a cap.

*shakes head again*

40?! I thought our 512 DSL was 10 times faster than 56K. So either Ghana only has 14kbps modems, or they're getting 2mbps DSL. I'd be very interested to find out details on the rollout.

Also be keen to drive a stake through the Telkom CEO's chest, but one step at a time...

FAQ: http://www.internetghana.com/installation.htm (static IP address is part of the deal)
and here http://www.dslghana.com/ for the rest.
Some of you may be disappointed: The home package is 64kbps, burstable to 128kbps for US$60 per month (setup fee $75). The business pakage is 128kbps minimum, with an upper limit of 1.5Mbps for.... US$250 per month (setup fee $250). Prices exclude VAT.

At least it is scalable, and no cap?

"Getting traffic shaping right is easy and can be summed up in one word: Dont." -- George Barnett

From what I hear, a lot of folks would sell their mothers for an always on connection with no cap, even if it is slow. I mean, at the very least, 24/7 is convenient because you can check your mail any time.

hmm... I think South Africa is going to become or is already one of the loosers when it comes to connectivity...

from what i read on the site the home users can only log in at certain times on weekdays ...6pm - 8am and can log in any time over the weekend and or public holidays and can only get up to 128k connection. Also they get assigned dynamic IP addresses.
For what it is worth, this is equivalent to putting a cap on the service and allowing users to be logged in 24 hours!!!

ADSL--A Damn Slow Link

well, for the home user I think it is reasonable... thats if you are not a download freak and wish to leave your connection on during the day and night 24 / 7!

Im wondering if the traffic is shaped...

Two of my collgues have been to Accra, Ghana and said that their fixed telecoms network is up to s^^t - dropped calls, etc and because of this, their cellular network (SpaceFon) is a huge winner there because of is stability compared to the fixed line network. So it would be interesting to see how ADSL holds up there. If they want broadband, going wireless is going to be a better option.

check these egypt sites here

look here:http://portal.menanet.net/menanet/services/products_homeusers1.jsp

Broadband ADSL Premium 512: 512 Kbps download - 192 Kbps upstream 2910 L.E <-whats that in rands.

Correct me if I`m wrong but Egypt is still a African country.

http://www.internetegypt.com/DSL.html

128/512 - EGP208 = R208
256/1024 - EGP412 = R412

From what I can tell, having the use of the phone on the line is an optional EGP20.00 (R20) a month.

Additional 4 IPs - EGP40 = R40.

No mention of a cap. Prices exclude 10% sales tax.

And yes playkiller, Egypt is part of our beloved Africa.
