GTA: SA Performance

The athlon 2400+ and the 1gB ram is fine. Try get some bucks togethere for a 6600gt, it'll play it well.
To me it is a waste playing such a good game on crap machine

That mission was a dosy but on my second try i did it, all the planes handle *** in the game i just wish thier was a way to invert your mouse just when flying

i've not gotten that far yet (obviously :p ) but i found in Vice City that i had to constantly swop between kb/mouse and gamepad depending what i was doing, and flying was definitely a job for the gamepad. (Logitech Rumblepad 2)

yeah a ps2 or xbox looking control makes the game cooler because mouse is too easy for shooting and too hard for other stuff.

I have gta sa for my xbox and the controls are weird but once you're used to themn they are SOOOOO comfortable

Yeah - it's got some neat features - just getting on a bike and riding around is still fun, looking for jumps and stuff.

I'm currently trying to intercept a plane, possibly the most boring mission I've tried so far.

The plane your supposed to intercept starts waaaaaay of the map, so you fly out to sea for about 5 minutes then suddenly it appears, so you have to do a quick loop and try to catch it before it reaches the airport.

You'll NEVER catch it it you're at the same altitude.
The trick is to make sure you're MUCH higher than the jet, and then dive onto it. You fly alot faster that way.

It's still a b@stard to do though. It took me quite a few frustrating tries to get it right.

Tried again once late last night - almost made it, then decided to land on the golf course and see how long I could avoid the cops for - ended up tackling the mountain range on a cop bike ;)

Will give that altitude thing a try.

The planes I find easy enough to control with mouse+keyboard now I'm used to them - what was irritating was that they changed them from VC to accomodate for the new free mouse look - the mouse look is great, but I had to relearn aircraft control.

I gave up on the rudders - I assigned them to my middle mouse + left mouse but rarely use it, easier to just bank to turn most of the time.

I also realised that my 10 year habit of using the arrow keys is holding me back in terms of "keyboard comfort", but I haven't been able to teach myself to use the WASD keys properly yet, so I end up using odd keys around the arrows, like the keypad, and the Del/End/PgDwn keys

The worst mission I tried was learning the apache helicopter, until I figured I had my mouse settings wrong - I didn't have freelook on, but instead, had mouse control operating the helicopter as well as the keyboard - it drove me almost crazy, because I kept crashing the damn thing, until I figured what was wrong :)

Oh yeah - a slightly dissapointing thing in GTA:SA - the bikes don't seem to ramp as high as GTA:VC, but I guess that's made up for with the sheer amount of traffic and the fact that it's more "permanent" if you know what I mean.

With GTA:VC, you would turn to face one direction and see cars coming, if you turned the other way and back again, new cars would be there or there would be none.

There's still a bit of that in GTA:SA, but it's more sneaky - if your driving down an empty road and mouse look away from what's in front of you, cars will suddenly appear right in front of you.

I use the default keyboard settings for heli flight.

Keep my fingers on QWE for throttle and rudder, and use the arrow keys for tilt.
Works well. Normal flight (planes) I battle a bit with, but I get through it.

One thing I find annoying though -- I'm at a section where I'm busy doing the gang war thing again, and there's some REALLY small territories... trying to find 3 gang members to kill off is a real trial. In some cases, I've had to go annoy them in a neighbouring territory, and then have them chase me back to where I could kill them to start a war. It really doesn't help if you have your own gang members to "help" you, cuz they keep killing them before they get to where you want them. Gah.

Ahh - so you do go back and do some more gang war !

I know in the early stages of the game, it could be damn irritating. The only easy way is to hang out on top of buildings and snipe/grenade them. The "help" definately is a waste of time, as they usually just attact the attention of the cops, especially when you've got a bunch of them in a car. The AI isn't that good, although it can be damn funny.

I was really peeved about being taken out of the gang war scenario when you get dumped out of town - I had taken about 70% of the ballas territory :D

Does it still do the predictable "ballas attack your territory" after you take over two of their territories ?

That's the way it seemed to work near the beggining of the game and it always seemed to happen just as you started a mission :D

um...well if you finish the main story and then go and get all the territory the ballers stop attacking.
