Hi guys, so I'm in the market for a decent card. Currently considering the GTX 460 which seems to be good value for money. Can anyone confirm the performance difference between the above? The 192bit is much cheaper, is it worth going for the 320bit?
BTW I intend running this on a 27" Sammy LCD. No real budget here, just don't want to spend too much as I've moved from heavy gaming to very mild gaming at this stage of my life

There are only 192-bit and 256-bit versions. I would go for the 256-bit if I were you, mainly because it is a 1GB card, and so running at 1080 you definitely won't run into any memory limitation issues, which you might on the 192-bit 768MB version.

I think Prophecy and Rebeltech have Inno3D 1GB version for pretty cheap, around R2,300.

Thanks so the 256 bit it is then. Is there a superclocked edition that I should look out for? Or should I buy standard and OC myself?

My opinion is to buy the standard, and then use something like Afterburner to OC it. The card OC's so well that pretty much all factory-overclocked versions can be bumped up to higher clocks, and most have a relatively conservative extra 50-75Mhz on the core. The reference cooler seems to be pretty good. If you want to wait, I should be getting my Inno3d 1GB tomorrow or Wed and then I can let you know my temps at different clocks.

This seems to be the card to buy:- Gainward GTX 460 GS GLH

This was mentioned in another thread, and someone said that it wasn't available in SA, but look around, you may be able to find it.

Cyberdyne has the MSI GTX 460 1GB 256bit Cyclone for R2388 including a 480 w PSU. So I called Zones, they want R2699 for the card only...

With that size screen I'd get the 1GB version, I bought the 786 version and it's awesome but i don't plan on upgrading my 22" any time soon.

Hi. Sorry got it this afternoon. Just had problems getting my system up, which turned out to be the thing I should have done first, but ended up doing last: reseating the ram. I just took out every stick but one, ugh.

Anyway, so I haven't had a chance to OC it yet, but at stock it runs very cool. I think it hit 50-odd running Metro 2033, and it idles at around 26 degrees, but my house is pretty cold. Coming from an 8800GT, this is magic. I'm busy downloading a new version of Afterburner, so I should be able to let you know how it OC's tomorrow.

So embarrasing:

C2D e6400 @ 3.2Ghz
Gigabyte ga-965p-s3
CM Hyper TX2 CPU fan
3 GB DDR2 800mhz ram
WD 320GB
Seagate 160GB
Asus Xonar D1
Corsair VX550 PSU
CM 690 ii (with a window and a 120mm fan blowing cold air onto graphics card, plus 4 other fans)
