GTX 460 192bit, 256bit, 320bit

Okay so using MSI Kombustor stability test on default settings, and I just let it run enough to get stable so it is very basic, this is what I got:

Stock 675/900 (Core/Memory) with normal fan settings (reached about 42% fan speed): 65 degrees
725/900 with slightly more aggressive cooling (reached about 50% fan speed): 60 degrees
750/925 with same fan settings as above (reached about 52% fan speed): 60 degrees
800/950 also with same fan settings (reached about 55% fan speed): 61 degrees

My card underclocks itself when not in use, so all idle temps are the same: 27 degrees.
Fan noise starts to get very noticeable in the high 50% range, but is is more a 'whooshing' noise than whining, but the fan seems a lot more efficient at around 50%.

Bear in mind that I have pretty low ambient temperatures since my house is pretty cold. This is great during summer, but man it sucks in winter.

And I'm keeping the 8800GT :P

lol I want to keep it for when I upgrade to use either as a dedicated physX card or to turn my old PC into an HTPC.

Also, I tested some more, and the fan speed only goes up to 70% max, so the increases in fan speed are really bigger than what they seem. I.E. increasing fan speed by '10%' really increases it by 10/70, or 14%, rather than a straight 10%. I also made my pc a lot quieter by disconnecting a dying fan, and the 460's fan becomes faintly audible at around 50% fan speed, and more audible at 55% and upwards.

Non-reference fans should be quieter. The nice thing about the reference design is that it is built to exhaust most of the hot air out of the rear of the PC. So if you do get something like the MSI Cyclone, it will blow the hot air around the case. It shouldn't make much difference, but is just something to keep in mind in terms of case cooling setup.

Haven't you heard, it's overrated. ;)

Would be interesting to hear what kind of noise people who have custom boards are hearing!..

I searched but could not find the thread. (only have cellphone access atm) Are you certain 2k for the 1GB card? Can you post a link pls?

Seems like no one stocks the Gainward GLH card in S.A. Looking at the MSI Cyclone / Inno3D atm.

Yeah, but some places are asking to much for the OCed cards. Go for the Inno3D one and OC it yourself, if you want.
