I was just thinking, as a reasonably new member, that maybe there should be a disclaimer on the site somewhere to warn members-to-be. Yes, warn them, I said... Warn them of how innocently it all begins... a quick search for a new thread... a quiet chuckle at someone's ramblings. But aahh, then it starts... That strange urge that draws you back at ever more regular intervals... makes you want to type something in that "quick reply" box... And then it's too late, for you find yourself constantly staring at the monitor, making incessant use of the reload button, and suffering severe sleep-depravation. Aahh, yes, my friends, all this could be yours, and more, if you would but click on that "register" link now.... but remember, you have been warned... ;)

New members, perhaps you could indicate here where you first heard about MyAdsl? Use the following numbers if you are too lazy to type out:

1 - Been browsing for a while. I was one of those "guests" you've been asking to register for a while.
2 - I heard about MyAdsl on the East Coast Radio/Cape Talk/702 interviews (indicate which).
3 - I read about MyAdsl in the newspaper/online news.
4 - Someone (offline) I know told me about it.
5 - I got here from a search engine.
6 - Another online forum/chat was talking about MyAdsl so I decided to check it out.
7 - A link from another website (say which).
8 - An existing member said I should check it out.
9 - Aliens abducted me and would only let me return if I promised to become a member of MyAdsl.

I think that we if we can start gathering information now, it will be of great use and help MyAdsl to know exactly which are the best forms of publicity.

Edit: Actually, lets ask all members to indicate this information, as it will show if there have been any changes in the way MyAdsl users hear about the site.

If every member responds here, I see some big competition for the "thread killer" thread, but then again, stoke might have another shot at #1234 :D

Anyway, mine are:
5. Google
1. Browsed for a while before I decided to join

I would guess many of the guests are actually registered members much like myself who only bother to log in if they going to post anything.

I have set the auto log in option on, perhaps if everyone else did the same the numbers would reflect with greater accuracy the true number of guests.

I was googling for the default Telkom router password. We had forgotten ours and only guy that knew it wasn't around. This was early 2004 or late 2003 - can't remember exactly. I didn't find the answer but I found the forum. I honestly didn't think too much of it at the time. At first I didn't really know exactly what myadsl was about. I thought it was kind of a adsl technical help forum. After I realised there was alot more to it, namely consumer activism and exposing Telkom, Sentech, etc, shenanigans I became alot more interested. After lots of lurking and getting interested in iburst I decided to register (December 2004).

Damn, I can't even remember when I started visiting this site. Think it's when rpm created the thing....

I was fighting Telkom to get ADSL made available to Ballito/Salt Rock and found mydsl.com so I googled for anything similar .co.za in SA thinking I would start one if one didnt exist and VOILA found you guys! Been here with a small break n the middle, ever since.

I'm Volunteering again.....

We need to do some serious "customer" relations ourselves on this forum.
So many valuable and knowlegable (sp) members have gone quiet and when i look at their profiles see that they have quitely slipped away....NO GOOD.
I am volunteering to get in touch and encourage their return. I also think that where we cannot resurrect members, we should deactivate their accounts. this will give us a true reflection of our numbers.
I also think to encourage members to log on and to encourage guests to register that the guest pages should limit browsing to just the last post. I f people want to see the whole thread, they must either log on or register. registration is FREE and TOTALLY ANONYMOUS so I dont think this is too much to ask, especially since the site will automatically log you on anyway on your next visit. If we are ramping up what we do, we have to get our numbers straight. Thoughts? :)

I also think that our "MyADSL Master/Senior Member" etc tags should be changed for very active members to identify the areas we are most useful in...for example Mr Buys says "Legal Eagle" MaD="Activist", Debbie2="Politics, Consumerism,Telecomms, Activist", Peapod "Activist, Consumerism, Press, Government" so that we can see where we contribute. ;)

Thats my sunday morning brain dump and I am absolutely prepared to do the work entailed to sort out our numbers and so on. Happy to do it in fact.

Le Pod

I can see it now:
noone="****-stirrer: ADSL, iBurst, MyWireless, ISDN, Dial-up, Pigeon post, Forked Stick"...edit: ...oh, and pr0n.
slimothy="Fanboy: iBurst, quasi-legal p2p"
LoneGunman="Verbose anarchist malcontent: ADSL, iBurst, MyWireless, and popular/unpopular culture"
ic="Super poster: iBurst, Telkom and anything else"
kilps="Junior fanboy: Max OSX"

the idea would be to have at most 2 words to describe the area we are most active in. Mine would be "Press, Consumerism"

Someone offline told me about it. Was a regular visitor to Hellkom.co.za, mpt anymore as MYADSL far more informative

A few days before I had my ADSL installed - in August 2003 I was doing some searching to see if I could find any reviews on Telkom's ADSL service, as I was not too sure what to expect. I came across another forum where I saw a post from rpm inviting people to myadsl. Haven't looked back since.
