Ola Gents...Just need some info from anyone who is currently playing Guild Wars 2...

Are there local servers? If not, is there any issues playing via international servers?

I am new to the whole MMORPG thing but from all the research I have done, it seems like GW2 is the game to get. I'm hoping the lifespan of the game will be substantial.

No local servers

Issues affecting SA players affect everyone, massive surges of players during the headstart and release meant that everyone gets a random dc now and then, these massive surges have had such an effect on the servers that ArenaNet removed the ability to purchase the game from http://buy.guildwars2.com - you can still get it retail however.

As with GW1, the player population will stabilize after a month

The client requires a 2.5-3Gb download after installing off the disc and there are 40-50mb updates daily, mostly bug fixing - so be warned if you have limited cap

Latency is hardly noticeable (there's no latency meter to gripe about), I'm on 3g and I have only noticed the odd slow-down in heavily populated towns (Lion's Arch - which is the main hub of the game)

I'm not a GW2 player, but can answer you based on other MMO's:
-No local servers are available
-International latency is 'acceptable' to many EU servers (depending on the quality of your connection, line speed shouldn't matter much if you aren't downloading in the background). US and Asian servers can be a little more problematic.

A friend of mine recently played a little GW2 at my home the other day and everything seemed to run smoothly with his actions going through with no noticeable lagging

I'm playing on Aurora Glade, with friends, and I've seen a few Saffa's on there with the [ZA] tag in their names. The overflow probs seems to be gone, for now, which is great, and according to yesterdays update on Reddit, the party/overflow issue should be gone.

Either a)You're moving to a remote location where you don't have internet, or b) you suck.
As a human being I'm hoping for a.

Just not finding it interesting enough. Might come back a couple months after MoP thou.

wait... so you are leaving gw2 to play wow?
I thought people would have realised wow is dead by now and that gw2 managed to cover a bunch of the shortfalls that wow had.

lol. Well I have been playing WoW on and off since BC.

MoP looks to be shaping up quite nicely.

Hey just installed the game and it's doing the day one update. It's at 3% for 200MB so the total will be around 6.6 gigs.

How big was your guys download? (I installed from disks not online)

The initial update was about 3GB, there have been daily updates since then but some of them replaced previous files so it will be tough to say how big your dl will be. One thing though is that the status of the dl is scewed because it works on file number and not file size. Most start off very slow then jump when they hit the smaller files.

Granted people like different things, I played a lot of wow and since GW2 im not even considering MoP. One thing about wow is that the end game content is better than the current GW2 endgame content.
