Guild Wars Complete for R261 + shipping

Buy the game, no need to wait for GW2, which is still almost 2 years off.
The 2 games will be very different on playstyles and different game-worlds (instanced / persistence) but there are still some comparisons that can be drawn. In GW1 you still have time to accomplish something, which you can then carry over to GW2 to gain benefits or make use of / display.

Playing GW1 will also allow you to come to terms with the storyline and lore aspect of GW, which is absolutely what the GW is about - it has a great story!

Also, Take2 has it for R272 - http://www.take2.co.za/games-guild-wars-complete-collection-pc-dvd-rom-2595175.html
If you are in CT, you can go and pick it up at their offices.

BTGames has it for R279 - http://www.btgames.co.za/btgames/gamepage.asp?A04889
They are also a walk-in shop with several shosp in CT, JHB, DBN etc.

and then Zaps.co.za also has it for R262 - http://zapsonline.co.za/?page_id=3&category=958 (sorry no direct link, which is kinda stupid, anyway...)
They have stores in JHB, if I am not mistaken.

Sounds interesting. I played a trial of Factions, and it was awesome. I presume that I will be able to continue with my old character if I buy this set and use the access key to play. How much will the game download on average for updates the first time I play it.

I will maybe buy it from Loot as there are other things there I also want to buy.

Thanks for the advice.

If you add keys to that account, you will be able to play your characters created before.

If I recall, Eye of the north (EoTN) has 3,6GB .dat file, and last time my gw.dat was 4,1GB. Hence 500MB will be downloaded in process of gaming in EoTN mainly, just updates will take about ~20-30MB. Very irritating, especially when everyone have to wait for you to load and then everyone leaves!

Run "gw.exe -image" and it will force your client to update completely. No need to wait while you download incremental updates when you Zone.

Thanks for all the advice. What is the ping on average on a 384 adsl line? Also how much bandwidth does it usually take for playing an hour on average... I know most of the answers are available on other places, yet it is somewhat outdated. Thanks.

Oops, I am sabotaging my own thread. :-)

Ping sometimes depends on districts.

I average 250-450 ping in Euro english and 400-600 in US district.

IIRC the last time I check I saw it took about 10mb / hour if your Dat file is up to date.

Thanks for all the information. Is that type of pings fully playable on Guild Wars.
How many people are still playing Guild Wars.
I have heard about the special events, like Christmas and Halloween. What is it like?

I see the price have gone up to R 266 on Loot... :-(
