I have been looking through the forums for info on Guild Wars and have 2 questions I want to clear up before I buy the game.

1) What is the lag like playing on a shaped ADSL account? :confused:

2) Which servers should one connect to EU or US? :confused:

It can get quite bad. but the same goes for every internationally based game you'd want to play. Best is to get VPN/Proxy solutions - see these forums for guys that offer this, like clipse

2) Which servers should one connect to EU or US? :confused:

Lag wise no difference really - Americ tends to have favour of the gods the most, which for you will only come into play later in the game. I've recently switched my player to American districts, and even with timezone difference there's always somebody to play with it seeems.

What is currently the best option for buying it? I would probably prefer to play on European servers.
 
you buy it online on www.plaync.com, download the client, start the game and choose where you want to play. EU or US, though you have 5 times to change if needed.

I have an unshaped account. Will that not be OK?
 
I am going to buy it through amazon.co.uk as family are coming out here on a holiday later this month

Unshaped ADSL account, ISDN or Dialup will work just fine. We've had two people playing using the same dialup connection with no problems
 
With a shaped account you will get some lag about twice or so a week, and worse during month end. I found that sunday mornings is the best time to play, or later during the night. The only problem is having to download all the files for a new region, but you are getting the full game, so it shouldn't be a problem for you.

In general I don't have a big problem with the gameplay.

Sunday is callmore time, use ISDN it's WAY CHEAPER.

7PM-7AM every weekday is callmore time.
Friday 7PM to Monday 7AM is as well - couple these with telkom infinicall and you have a real winner!

Thanks for the advice Nod just want to make sure before i spend my cash that the games going to run ok
