Guild Wars, questions...

you can register a guild for a small fee ( me thinks 200 gold? ) at Ascalon by the Guild Master.

a cape will cost you 2k of gold after you choose the design.

AFAIK anybody in Ascalon post-searing can create a Guild.

OK, so I dont wanna sit for hours downloading the patches/whatever from home on 56k, is there a way I can download the patches/areas for GW from work on a fast connection?

1. install the the game on your work PC
2. let the game update all it needs from the login screen
4. also browse areas of the game with your char to get the files required
5. burn the GW.DAT file on a DVD ( should be around 1.6GB in size )
6. overwrite the current GW.DAT file at your home PC ( make a backup first )

done. ;)

Thats a good question, I too would like to know the answer. Somehow I doubt it is possible though as the game steam-lines a lot of content to you as you play. I can't seem to find a bundled .exe file on the official website with all the included files, there is no mention of it, so it must not be possible. I suppose its like Steam, everyone must download their own patches.

You don't necessarily need do download your Steam patches. I've backed up my files and then my friend use them to update his steam because he had no internet connection at that stage.

The approach suggested by Useless to get the patches works perfectly. Have used it many times.

More information on starting a guild:

Note, creating a guild is easy. Finding enough players for it is another story. And you cannot leave the guild as leader unless you can find somebody else to take it over, so it you decide to join another guild instead, then you have problems.

If Diablo had a bastard child, it would be this game...
If Blizzard ever makes Diablo 3...it would be this game...
If Guild Wars name was changed to Diablo Online, it would be this game...
I love this game...

I am a poet and I know it...

hehehe... just give us a Mephisto variant in GW and i will haunt him every 15 mins.. or is there one later on in the game?

Now, now, we cannot spoil it for you. But I think you should budget a bit more than 15 minutes to be on the safe side. :p

See this page. Look for the word Diablo: :D

So, I agree with Spaceman and that page does as well.
Edit: And that page also gives one an idea on why their network code is so good.

HA, did Thunderhead Keep last night and it was real easy! Finished it first time! But I have to say I was in an excellent group. We killed the mobs before they even got into the keep. We only had trouble with 2 monk bosses becaude we couldnt kill them fast and took about a minute each.

gkm, do you know what the bonus mission is? I thought we had to light the 2 Beacons? Or are there more? I lit them myself as soon as the mission started.

That is great news.

As far as I know the bonus is just to light both beacons fairly quickly when after the little movie, so that extra mursaat are drawn into the keep, instead of them killing the outlying villagers. I have never done the bonus on THK. Doing the bonus is risky, because a team that could just make it without the bonus is often wiped if the bonus is activated as well.

this quest... is it like how far from Frost Gate? pretty far or pretty close?

Frost Gate is mission 6. THK is mission 21. The final mission is mission 24. So I would say pretty far.

Thats weird, because I immediately lit the beacons after the movie and still didnt get the bonus. Maybe I was to slow.

Yes, Ascelon looks pretty bad after the attack from the charr. The change is a shock for most people.

You have to create a new character to go back. That is the only way to go back in time to before the war with the charr, i.e. start from scratch.

Note, Ascelon looks bad, but the rest of the world, as you follow the story missions, looks much better.

so if my friends are still in the old ascalon then we cant play toghrter any more?
