Gold items can be sold as "unids"(gold items that not identified), 7 items for 5k(714 each). Especially when they have high requirement(for weapons with maximum damage, req10-13, req9 for items with common skin/looks) or don't have maximum damage. In short, items that cannot be sold to players because of above reasons i.e. requirement or skin or not maximum damage...

Aaah ok, that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up. :)

Oh dear, another victim of the website error :( It seems to be a common problem in this country for some reason.

There is another thread in this section with people having problems browsing to the Guild Wars sites - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=153501
Have a look at it. Who is your ISP and what connection are you using?
Speak to your ISP firstly and get them to sort the problem out.

I forgot to mention in my post that there will be cases that you find runes and other upgrades on the items you pick up. Some of them are also worth to salvage off of the item, since you can sell them separately to the rune trader for instance.
Some of these runes are the Survivor, Radiant, Vitae, Attunement and Vigor runes. They all sell for quite a bit of gold, especially considering they may have come off an item that was in total worth 40g, for instance, when you tried to sell it to the normal merchant.
This is always something to look out for, as it can give some nice cash boosts.

if you are not sure what a rune is worth, just go and check the rune trader for his prices. It will give a good indication if it is worth salvaging off. If an item is 100g (his minimum price) at the rune trader, it is not worth it, since he will only pay 25g for such an item. You can start looking at selling items to the rune trader when they are worth 400g and more at the rune trader.
This is what I do at least.

I found chests but they were locked, went back to buy some keys but then the chests where gone. What can you expect to find in them?

lol Joze... hehehe...

Chests spawn randomly thru explorable areas, so they not always in the same spots each time you rezone.

Chests range in value of drops depending on the area... They have crappy drops in all the starter areas, Kryta, Istan and Shing Jea. As you move to the mainlands, the chests will strt to drop gold weapons, so carrying a few keys with you never hurts, especially when you're new... Later on in HM (Hard Mode) you get locked chests which use lockpicks, and they almost always drop valuable golds...

NF has Lost Treasures and Do Not Touches that give gold (up to 2 plat) as well as a gold weapon... And you can open them once a month...

If you have a NF char, PM me in game and we'll run a few of the NF chests together... ;)

I'm in Old Ascalon, there is a mission that is really hard for me,

The "Ambassador's Quandery" I think, when I move through the hills towards my destination these two green glowing shamannic whatchamacallit's take out my healer, wizard, pet and me out in a matter of seconds. They are really loaded with health sucking spells and stuff. I tried walking around the area but it seems like they are unavoidable.

Any tips?

I did manage to take out a seemingly invincible stone golem or whatever that had a healing totem somewhere in the hills, That was kinda fun. but it dropped absolutely zilch, I expected some reward, like that totem he had, that would have been cool. I guess I need to get away from my hacker's approach to gaming, I like game bugs, etc.. stuff overlooked or little things that misbehaves in your advantage. Seems like GW have an anti approach to this style of playing. But there is always more.. Mwhahahaha!!

lol - one of the strengths of GW is the fact that the game is being continually updated and patched - as far as I've heard the developers and staff of NCSoft play the game as well, so things like that get spotted and fixed.

As for tips ... I'll need a bit of info ... what class are you for instance. And what are the whatchamacallits :p. And which area are you in? I haven't been in that area for a while, so I can't remember exactly what I did to nail them.

KK, here goes ....

After reading almost all the forums in regards to GW I have decided to give this game a bash.

I am however a almost 4 years running WoW player and will continue to strole down the path leading to riches and glory and maybe just maybe ending up facing Arthas himself BUT .....

I am getting tired of hours and hours of grinding , ok wait let me stop before I start complaining way to much.

Anyways , I am going to buy the box set today . Install this game that has been gnawing at my mind for some time now and hopefully it will not be a dissappointment like all the others .. WAR/LOTR/CoNan/EVE that have failed imo .

Just maybe this can become a new addiction or perhaps keep me away from WoW for a month . I will have to wait and see .

Welcome Stiletto, hope you enjoy it. GW is the prettiest MMO around and the PvP is awesome. Pve content and storyline are very well done too.
A big change for you will be the instancing and level cap, compared to WoW, of course. Some people like it, some don't.

Good luck :)

Hopefully I dont sound to noobish but can someone explain to me the following :

If id like to have a primary proff from gw proph and a secondry from gw factions ex : el/as how would I go about doing that ?

Cause as I understand it now I would only be able to mix 2 prof that came with original release , and then later on I can change that ... true / false

You can choose any secondary profession after you do one of following:
*Ascension (Prophecies)
*Factions (Wen No Su)
*Nightfall (Hunted)

For first time you can choose 1 secondary profession of starting campaign and then you cannot change it until you complete quests/missions mentioned above for respective campaigns.

After, you can get all secondary professions (with initial fee) of any campaign (if you have other campaigns on account), irrespective in which campaign you have done aforementioned quests/missions. Secondary professions can be changed at any time (except for explorable areas) for free once you bought them. You not losing your skills of other professions when changing professions. You can change professions back to original.

Have a nice game. ;)

If you play the game and take your time, all your questions will be answered. They have built very nice tutorials to help newbies.
You can only initially have your primary and then one Secondary profession during the tutorial part of the game. Once you reach a specific town or mission, you can then add the rest of the professions to your char, at 500g each and then thereafter you can change your secondary profession whenever you want to.

If you have all the campaigns, you can have any of the other 9 secondaries at one time with your primary profession, i.e A/E, A/R, A/Mo, etc.
It creates quite a big opportunity to experience different builds.

Leveling is quick in Factions and Nightfall. You can get lvl20 within 15-20hours of gameplay, easily. This is about 3-4 days of playing maybe 4-5hours a day. From there you can get max armor and start doing PvE and PvP properly.
Armor in GW is purely aesthetic, the different kinds of armors are basically just different skins, i.e. they look different. The same goes for weapons, if they are max damage, then they all do the same damage, based on the skills you use.
This is where GW is different, you must know when and how to use your skills to get the most out of it, especially when you are playing PvP.

Once again, when you arrive at a specific mission / town in a campaign, you can then travel to the other continents for the other games and play there too.

Some skills and professions are campaign-specific.

The 6 core professions are Necromancer, Warrior, Monk, Ranger, Mesmer and Elementalist. They started with Prophecies, which is the first campaign, and it plays the slowest, but some say are the best due to it's storyline being linked to Eye of the North and the beautiful landscapes. It is a must-play if you start with the other campaigns first.
These 6 core professions are why they are default profs in Factions and Nightfall. They introduced 4 additional profs in the 2 other campaigns - Assassin, Ritualist in Factions and Dervish, Paragon in Nightfall.
Nightfall also has Heroes, which are highly customisable NPC's that you can order around. They help greatly and are very nice for newbies to start with.
