Guild Wars, questions...

It is starting to look like it is nearly impossible for assassins to get into parties these days. Other classes have been picked on in the past, but I have not seen anything as harsh as the excluding of assassins. So I can believe that you must be suffering badly.

Ye, indeed, luckily I have guildies most of the time but last nite, or early this morning, it was the worst yet.
Haven't had it like that before, but luckily there was another assassin being victimised. At least if all else fails we will still stand together ;)

:D

well lildeath the problem I find - with a lot of the A and rt classes - majority of them are bunch of n00bs... I dunno why but everyone that joined factions decided to take up the rt and a classess... maybe cos they look seksi on the box or something...

so when ever I quest I usualy ask the following questions

Do you have any greens...
For a Necro I usually ask if they have BR or if they MM or SS
For a Ranger I ask if they barrage or spike
For a Ele I ask if they are a Nuker
For a W/Mo I ask if they have glad defence
For a Mes I just go blah or can you spike :P
For a rt I boot them :P
For a A I let then die 20 times if they are n00bs

With that I usualy get a good balance of players.

I see you do not ask monks any questions? :D I guess you must not have had a pure smiting monk in your party recently.

Edit: I actually like the hench Rt a lot. Have not played a lot with real Rt's yet.

actually the Rt isn't too bad but I've had a couple that thinks rt are tanks :erm:

Monks I ask can you heal! what energy have you got....

if they don't say <- healer then I boot... if they say they a Prot/Smiting monky I boot

I'm playing with a monky which is why I don't ask much about monks!

So far I can do 909 heal with 42 energy :D and when there's a necro present I ask them for BR - and all is well!

HHmmm, interesting questions. ;)
I never use BR because all the guys I play with have good energy management. I will only bring if requested. Frankly, I get irritated when players use this as pure means of taking a Necro. They have lost the plot.

Greens you can also get relatively easy these days. In almost every outpost one can be bought.

And the warrior question? ye, well.... :p

Rt are great support chars, they do great healing and can do potentially hectic dmg too.

As for assassins, I have played with A's that just die time and time again... I think they just do not care, but this alone pees me off coz it only shows they have not discovered how to play this class. This of course makes it worse for the other assassins which do actually know how to play them
(but this happens to all chars I guess, I have seen this with necro's, warriors, just like gkm posted earlier)

Last night I finished the mission called Santum Cay. What a short, easy mission that was. WTF ? Anyway, I am now in some Crystal Desert Town with people going on about Ascending. What is this 'ascending' ? Anyone care to explain. I need to do a few quests out in the desert later tonight.

When you have ascended, then you have basically "arrived" in the game. Ascending consists of four missions in the desert, the last one you have to fight a copy of yourself. You are then allowed to enter places like the Underworld and Fissure of Woe.

Edit: And congratulations on your birthday yesterday.

I have to share this experience:
Yesterday evening I helped some warriors to capture some elite skills in Lornar's Pass (first area of the Drok's run) with my monk. But behold, the one warrior was not a real warrior, but rather a N/W, called something like Knight Death Blade or whatever, with a Fellblade. And he always engaged the level 24+ monsters first, often while I was still out of healing range, so he spent most of the fights lying on the ground dead. And any attempt to get him not to engage first just resulted in him blaming lag for dying or saying that he has made it to the crystal desert with his fellblade, so he is very skilled. I ask you, what do these people think? :(
What a gifted young lad this Knight Death Blade is  In his defense though, it is possible to get as far as finishing the Crystal Desert area with a bladed N/W. I did that with my N/W just becasue I could (though only if I was with a henh party, just in case it went pear-shaped). His failing is not testing new areas out with his weapons first... When I reached Droks, I took some henchies out to see what I was up against (as I do with all new areas) and have never used a sword since :D In fact I dropped all secondary attributes and focused on Blood, Soul Reaping and Curses to get as much potency out of my character as possible, since I found the Southern Shiverpeak area is the first real call for specialised chars, instead of a random mix of attributes.

Fishfly, I disagree with this generic build idea and booting (possibly experienced) members because they aren't this or aren't that. I have been playing the game for ages now and have figured out my own builds on the way. I know what I use effectively, damage wise AND team support wise. I don't know, maybe its the way I am asked/booted that grinds me.
In my Necro case: To me an MM is useless (personal taste, healing over damage)... But the kidz read about it on some random GW site and some uber hero twit was raving on the raised damaged and extra meat walls and how you can speed up mission times. So bloody what? :) In runs with MM Corpse hogs I have seen FAR more party members die than if I use Well of Blood/Power in relevant areas and if requested, casting BR on Monks. Though my healing set eases the load on them anyway so is not totally essential. Then there is the damage side, which I don't need to go into detail on but find it does the job. My point is, many people are insistant that one uses such and such a build that it ruins the variety of the game. With the vast amounts of skills (sure, some skills are useless) I don't see why a mindset of "this MUST be used and if you use that you WILL be booted". Though in the same breath, with the influx of clueless kids, I can also understand it to an extent. Bottom line is that I don't see why I NEED to use a generic skill set if I do not like it, I'm also sick of being booted in outposts with the same tired reason, "ur a n00b", when I am not.

What is the solution? I dunno... Anet should maybe allow a /age type query on another persons account yeilding the same results from the standard /age command. Or do I just give up the effective builds I am proud to have discovered myself, without going to GWGuru/wherever and duping some "wicked cool" build posted there (aka become yet another sheep and blend in with the 12yr olds)?

This is generally what I was getting at and I full-heartedly agree with you.

I still like MY MM tho ;)

alrightee firstly what I said is just a guidline on some of the Q's I ask, I don't boot ppl I usually leave when there's more than 5 n00bs (i.e 7 players - non healers - and they want me to be the only healer) 3 new players who listen and follow instructions and I don't have a problem but when 5 all charge and attack their own targets then I get pissed... especially when they say "oh and the monk sux at healing/rez/etc)

if you have a neco in the team and you mention MM or SS they shuld at least be able to answer that...

evilspinach the Necro class are powerful Damage dealers plus their Minions are extremely useful when it comes to saving the team!!! having a couple of lvl 20 bone fiend and a lvl 24 bone golem helps redirect the attacks on your characters... plus the damage they deal is also great for PVE.

If you read my post regarding labelling players arenanet still have yet to respond... I asked that by some method they could label players are leave just cause someone dies.

I thought about this one a bit. ANET will really have to do some smart development on this one.
@ the rate of knots I am being disconnected while in mission, on a quest, running (even just standing still in a town!!! ), it can seriously hamper my rep & rating if they do introduce something like this without proper consideration for all the variables.

Players invariably think you leave the party when they see someone 'disappear'.

Sorry about the dupe... Been having to switch diginet connections today. Seems our local exhange is giving the area problems again. Both proxies also showed no post from me and I had my text on clipboard :) so, i posted again.

hehe, you keep your MM and I'll keep my Necro Quasi-Monk ;) If you leave a few corpses for me to support with healing, we will get on just dandy! :D

Ok, that sounds far better than your previous post. And I can relate to that frustration!

Similarly, an SS Nuke can totally replace the Minions and Well of Blood can also be extremely useful when it comes to saving the team.

Its really six of one and half a dozen of the other which is why I get so irritated by the fact that if you don't match some idiots specific class requirements, you are not wanted. Its how the person uses their skills in the end that counts.

well how about if they receive a 007 message on their side on a player they can post player disconnected and no log that in a player status... but when a player quits or travel to town then they must log that...

well....even if they created an age registration form easy way to get around the age 1 would be to.....lie and enter that you were born in 1979 instead of 1997 ;) i mean....how would they actually get around that ??

cool post spinach, i agree that you should have the freedom to do any build you want and not be told which build to use.

Granted certain builds have been tried and tested and are solid....but still....beauty of GW is the diversity and freedom to create any build you want.

Sorry just a quick question what level was your character when you entered the marketplace? I am on level 15 w/mo and level 15 rt/n but I am getting killed ….

This is low indeed... no wonder you are getting hammered.
You probably missed some missions along the way that would've given you EXP to get to about lvl 18/19 ... ;)

When you hit mainland (being the Marketplace) I would suggest having as much HP as you could possibly have :D
otherwsie you will relieved of the little hp you do have.... :p

With both my chars methinks me was lvl 19 when I hit Marketplace

hhhmmm .... does sound like a plan, but it will have other 'side' effects, like more bandwidth for instance to feed this back to players, etc.
One can also 'generate' a 007 very easily. It is a rather generic error.

evilspinach I only ask these questions to find an indication of the levels of the players :D

it really sux when you have so many chars and eveeryone is inexperienced and everyone starts attacking everything... so if you mention MM/Nuker/etc and they go WTF is that? (if they are necro/you get the pic) then you'll pretty much know what lvl those players are :D

You should head north asap to Kaineng Center to get better (aka the best) armor. There is a safe path that you can walk between the peasants most of the time and do not have to do much (or any) fighting. Everybody dies a lot in factions, but at level 15 you certainly have to be even more carefull.
