Guild Wars, questions...

Do u guys like have a degree is guild wars? Did ya'll do GW 101 at university? lol.
Thats excellent advice though because i was not sure where to go from here. I thoug that could'nt be the end of shiro cause it was too easy and i did it with henchies. I fugured maybe the follow up of shiro was to come with nightfall. Well in light of this new info it looks like the game is just beginning.... after 10 000 000 000 000 hours of gameplay already under my belt. Thanks again for the advice. I will keep in touch.
cheers

What do all you healer monks out there consider to be a good monk staff/wand? Im using a staff at the moment that gives great bonuses but only if you have high domination magic (im half mesmer btw), which is kind of useless since im a healer. But its all that ive been able to find at the moment.

Id obviously like to find a weapon that gives some kind of bonus to energy and/or healing but where? (I only have prophecies btw,...but will definitly be getting nightfall!!)

Also, how do you monks maintain high levels of energy? My monk has 41 total energy and I find at times I just keep running out of energy. What skills do you use to maintain high energy?

(hey hey,...who's looking forward to Nightfall? I know I am) :)

thanks

hehe, with time comes knowledge, young padawan :D
Oh yes, Shiro is not as easy as that ;)

I am using a healing rod which I bought from a merchant and a healing ankh (+12 energy and +50 hp, got from collector in Wajjun's Bazaar) / Rien's Sacrifice (+30hp and +1 healing prayers, 20%) as a focus items.
Sometimes I use a protection staff but only when I mostly use prot spells with low cost.

The greens are not always the best. Sometimes there are better 'normal' weapons available in-game.

Your energy is a bit low, must definitely try and get it up to 45+, use energy armor and better weapons / items.
Some people use mesmer spells to manage energy, like revealed hex, mantra of recall (elite), inspired hex. You can also use ether signet or blessed signet when maintaining enchantments.

I'm looking forward to Nightfall!! :D

Me personally don't have these, have some Monk greens from Factions.
I know some that have got the items but probably wont sell. :p

The one I am using is Rien's sacrifice, which is almost the same as The Stonehart, cept with Rien's I get +30hp (instead of skill recharge)
Brohn's I also will not easily go for, will rather look for an item with extra energy.

Factions install after Prophecies

Hey everyone. I ordered the collectors edition of Factions off Digital Planet last night - by the way I recommend buying from them, much cheaper than anywhere else. I can't wait for it to arrive. My question: if I already have prophecies installed and completely up to date, the .dat file sits around 2GB if I remember correctly. Does this original .dat file contain all Factions updates aswell? Do you install Factions over that same Guild Wars directory with the .dat files, or does it install to a different factions directory and then those factions .dat files still have to be updated when you first connect? If you do still need to update Factions seperatly, how big is the download?

And now another question: How easy is it to get a character from Factions back into Prophecies (Ascalon) without levelling it too much so you can do the arena's and Prophecies quests/missions with lets say the Assassin or Ritualist?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I rather buy from Take2 or kalahari.net. Not a fan of Digital Planet for various reasons. :p

Your current Prophecies .dat file will only contain content updates which are shared among the 2 chapters, updates that are specific to Factions will not be there.

When you install Factions you will get a choice to choose your installation type, either a standalone version or shared version. Standalone is understandably on its own, meaning Factions and Prophecies are then considered separate installations, making use of its own install directories and you also cannot travel between Prophecies and Factions continents with your chars.

I did a shared install, because I want to be able to travel between continents and I think you also get the 6 char slots with this.

You will have to do Factions updates after the Factions install. I do not know how much this is though.
My guestimate is that it would be between 200-300 MB. It may even be as high as 500MB.

Thanks for the help lilDeath. I'll definately go with the shared install then.

Can anyone help me with my 2nd question?:
How easy is it to get a character from Factions back into Prophecies (Ascalon) without levelling it too much so you can do the arena's and Prophecies quests/missions with lets say the Assassin or Ritualist?

Hiya, sorry missed the 2nd question ;)

Well, if you have the 2 chapters linked, then it is very easy.
You can only go to Tyria once you reach Kaineng. By the time you get here you should be relatively high leveled already, lvl16 and up at least, unless you really only go for the main missions, then you might have a problem.
Then just take the mission from Guardsmen Chienpo and go to Lion's Arch and then continue with the missions from here in Tyria.
The monsters here are also not max, so you will be getting exp here anyway, as well as the missions.

Anyone dowloaded todays updates when starting up guild wars?
If so, how big are the updates?

Okay I finished with the updates. About 12MB to start the APP, then when connecting another 20MB or so. Cant exactly remember. My characters armor also reset in the beginning. Once it finished updating after trying to connect, everything was back to normal. However currently the lag is unbearable. Servers must be working hard with all the downloads. Got a cool new Nightfall background though :)
Download are still streaming in the background though. And now I cant connect at all, telling me to try in a few minutes.

 Still at work so will do the update from here and check how big it is and the rather worrying 'character has seemed to reset' statement :D

It's just the usual armor reset on your character selection page.

Everything comes right again as soon as you load up your first character :)

Ended up not completing the update while I was still at work, but I have been back since 7am and have been running it since 07:30 or so...
I have downloaded about 20MB in the launcher interface and currently at 270MB at the login screen and still going....

edit: 400MB....

edit2: ok, got back from breakfast now :D and download finished at 476MB. So, it's almost 500MB total if you add the 20MB update at the launcher

Must be some new shaders or something in that update... I can finally go to Fire Chain isles again without dropping from 50fps down to 3-10fps. w00t for me. I can finally resume elite capping in the area.

The new skill balance looks interesting! I'm sure a few guilds are going to have to do some drastic re-strats.

Many of my friends use dial up, is it possible for me to copy the updates onto a CD for them? Which files must I copy?
