Hi

I received a copy of Guild Wars from a friend of mine in the UK for my birthday on 12 July, and have been playing it quite happily until very recently.

At the beginning of this month we switched over from a 3GB Internet Solutions account (via CreateOvation) to a 30GB Axxess account. On the IS I used to experience slow speeds during business hours, as well as a few minor lag spikes, especially if one of the other PCs on the network were downloading.

However, with the Axxess account the game seems to lag terribly no matter what time of day I try it. Browsing speeds also seem to be somewhat slower than IS, and the pings I'm getting are around 350+ ms for local sites.

So I guess what I'm trying to establish is whether Axxess puts online gaming on an even lower priority than IS? Or maybe its just coincidence that we switched ISPs at the same time that Telkom made their changes and price reductions?

Either way, I'd very much appreciate your opinions on the matter.

Thanks :)

P.S. I'm on Home DSL384, with a Telkom Marconi 4-port router.

Port shaping is a evil thing, hopefully I***A can stop this.

im on home dsl 384 and ive had the same problem since the beggining of the month i cant even move when i log in

and whats worse is my friend on a 56k dial up gets a better ping than me in guildwars now :(

I have the 192K Package.
playing guildwars on a 30GB account with imaginet
And have had no problems playnig.. there are thge few monents it is slow.
then all i do is cancel what ever download is going on and carry on.

Amazingly since 1st August my Guildwars is and I kid U not UNPLAYABLE. (512K Telkom)
I am even getting error 7 (disconnections) during the day & night. Has anyone the internet addy for guildwars data centre in EU & US. If I have that I will hourly take bloody tracert's and send them to [email protected] and every other cc'ed telkom address that I can find.
PS AXXess is just reselling telkom data so you can join me in my public service tracert to telkom lol

@Zardoz

Like you, I'm also getting a lot of Err=7 anytime of the day. After I enter my password and I get that little box that says "Connecting..." I know that the game is going to be unplayable.

At least last month it was slow during business hours, but even then I only ever got completely disconnected when the modem reset itself to a new IP shortly after midnight.

BTW What ISP you using?

isp telkom and yes just got kicked out of the game 5 seconds ago thats why I am here *darn

Hi

I dont think its got anything todo with our ADSL. Im downloading from their server now and getting 4kbps and lower so it must be something with their servers. Maybe its too loaded with people. I usually get 25kpbs and up on overseas servers.

Dont be too hasty to blame ISP/Telkom/etc. There is known major issues with lag on the European Servers. I use Voda 3G to play GW and since the last update [in July] there has been really really bad lag. Turns out the entire europe has been complaining about it...i believe it has become slightly better the last week or so though, but after each update there is usually lag spikes for days.

Just check out these Forums [Guildwarsguru.com]: There is a reason why there is a sticky post with the title "Support Issues and Lag " .
One of the most common "complaints" lately has been the ongoing presence of lag on the ANet servers. Anyone having issues with lag should contact Technical Support. Once done, a typical response from the Support Team is as follows:

This issue is not outside SA, why on earth would my vpn help SA players with any latency issues? If at all it was because of poor performing servers?

I agree with Clipse completely here.

As the situation currently stands, I cannot play Guild Wars over a standard ADSL account, but have no problems what-so-ever using his NukeCAP VPN service, or the unshaped SAOL account I tried out last night.

Bottom line...the problem lies with the ISP/Telkom and their port/packet shaping.

Please

Please somebody give me an account please please i wanna try the game before a buy it =(=(

it could be very kind of the man who could share hes account 2 me

Wow! You're using 3G to play the game. Please share your experiences to date if you don't mind. I'd never have thought this possible.

it might not be the servers at all.

i mentioned elsewhere that it took me 7 hours to update my UO with 8MB of data. 7 hours! can you imagine? it took me the whole day to make sure that i reconnect the bloody thing when it disconnects.

any news about the playability? is it better or worse or the same? its the 11th of the month, so it should have become better by now, right?

This has very much been resolved. My ADLS using friends still have a tough time trying to play occasionally. Dialup is so sweet though - you can even have 2 people playing (2 accounts/2 pc's) on 1 56k dialup! Their Netcode/game design is awesome!

Check out sockscap. Used together with ssh port forwarding you can get around most shaping issues, provided that you have access to an ssh server outside of SA.
