Can you believe this? Only in Africa.

Extracted from The Mercury Tuesday Sept 16 2008

The custom of firing shots at the funerals of Umkhonto weSizwe cadres is under threat after the death of a man at Inanda at the weekend.
Xolani Ncyiyane, 33, of KwaMashu was shot dead next to the grave of a former comrade when an MK veteran fired shots into the air at the Amaoti cemetary in Inanda on Saturday.
The former MK commander Sizwe Ngubeni said a bullet struck his best friend in the head.

The really scary part is that this is not the first time either. Apparently two other people have suffered a similar fate at funerals in Gauteng in the last year. One an MK veteran and the other a civilian.
Have these people no brains at all? Wander whether anyone was ever prosecuted?:rolleyes:

and just to think....this will never end....every funeral will result in another funeral.....it will just keep going on....

don't these morons realise what goes up must come... down?

I don't remember the article saying the bullet was shot in the air. From the extract I read I got the impression people were firing bullets at random in every direction. As you imply, morons, don't usually follow logic.

As a note, myth busters ran an episode about firing bullets straight up too see if it would kill someone. The myth was busted?

And I bet that was a legal firearm fired within municipal boundaries, and also of course nothing happened to the other "legal" firearm owners firing their guns in public.

Next thing you'll hear is that this is a tradition that went back to before Jan van Riebeeck...

This happened before, not so long ago in Vereeneging iirc, also at a ANC Um****o funeral.

Oke was shot dead, cant remember anything happening to the killer either.

Yup i saw that too, but mythbusters got it wrong. I have personally treated a child killed by some idiot firing into the air on New Years eve.

Some freaking hilarious posts from another forum on the issue:

"The guns weren't firing blanks - the blanks were firing guns!"

"You're supposed to be firing up into the air, not up into the hair!"

HAHA! What a bunch of 'tards. But hey, at least there was a hole already dug.
