Apple will switch all products to USB-C by 2024 — Report

Apple is planning to switch all the ports in its product line-up to USB-C by 2024, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said that although the company has publicly spoken out against strict regulation mandating the use of a single type of connector for electronics, it has been working behind the scenes to migrate all its remaining devices to USB-C.

I wouldn't say that is too difficult a prediction after the EU mandated it...

Apple can go all wireless...

With Airdrop for file transfer and wireless charging, they pretty much are... I think the reason Apple hasn't switched to USB-C yet was that they were originally planning to ditch the port completely, but I guess wireless charging just isn't there yet.

Once Apple capitulates, the EU should retire the legislation after 5 years. Last thing you want is manufacturers being tied to an out of date standard.

Consumers by then will be expecting their iDevice to work on USB standards.

The iPhone has always supported the USB standard since its inception. Lightning uses the USB protocol. It's just the propriety Lightning connector that's the issue.

wireless charging is so inefficient it should be banned.

Even if they 'lose' 50% , a 66w wireless charging running at 33w wired speeds is pretty decent, I think .

It's when you start looking at the low wireless speeds, and lose that same 50% that it becomes quite bad

Finally I will buy an iPhone in 2024. This will make any other iPhone from "the old generation".

MyBroadband should do a summary of these reports and their crystal balls year after year about how long they've been getting this wrong instead of spreading the bullshit.

We've been seeing this since at least the iPhone X.
