Nooit. Stay away from Chinese, bru.

Rather look at a clean 2nd hand SUV for the price.

How could you ask such a question?

Chinese cars =

No matter how nice the price may look

2nd hand Fortuner/Forester rather

IMO stay away from "made in china" Look at the Hyundia ix35, good stuff. The new Kia Sportage is being release in a few months. Stunning vehicle. From all the GWM bakkies i've driven it falls apart brand new.

I just saw the Hyundai ix35, good looking car... will go and test drive one the weekend.

Sun even shines on a dogs ass some days....

There is one big reason for not buying a Chinese car...
Is it the fact that warranty repairs take weeks? no.
Is it the fact that the finishes are shoddy and unfinished? no.
Is it the fact that besides cutting corners on the stuff you can see, they cut corners where you cant? no.

Its because once you have bought the car, it aint worth crap. You can't sell it for shít.

Cutting corners on the stuff you can't see and shoddy finishes - more a Japanese thing I think. I quote from Business Week:"As pressure grew to get vehicles finished faster, more changes made it into the “backside” of parts such as the headliner, or areas not seen by customers, said the executive with a parts maker that supplies Toyota. In some cases those changes weren’t listed in official engineering documents, the executive said."

The Hover even stops when you hit the brakes - doesn't accelerate. I suppose you can pay twice the price for a no safer and no better vehicle but then with that extra 200k you could also educate your kids, take a couple of round the world trips or buy another car.

Andy: everyone thinks their car purchase was the best ok?
OP, DON'T buy Chinese, at least not for the next 10 years

The GWM is not one of the cheap and badly made Chinese makes, the Hoveris well made with a Mitsubishi engine. This is a strong solid 4x4 with a proper truck suspension and is much like Toyota and Nissan used to be - tough and reliable.

By the way my last vehicle was an Audi and I never thought that was the best vehicle ever but comparing quality and price with that and other vehicles I have owned, including Toyota, I really believe that the GWM Hover is the best value for money vehicle on the market.

There is no way a Hover is better quality than an Audi.

You will start to see the negatives of your purchase after a few months of driving, buying Chinese is just stupid and embarrassing

Tell you what, it does use a Mitsubishi engine. Yay, the car has oomph. Now what's it made of? When every other brand of cars gets 5 stars, the Hover got a 3 star.
Now problems now? Wait a year or two

I think you all might be surprised by the Hover...

I haven't driven one, yet, but the reviews seem to be mostly positive and for the price they pretty much can't be beaten.

It's new, and Chinese products are "good" in the beginning but they don't last. a 3 star rating for safety? Every well known car manufacturer is 5 stars, and people still die on the roads. I don't trust cars that can holes from me pushing my finger in the bonnet :p

One drive in one that had 3000 km on the clock, and was rattling as though it had done 300 000...it was already streaking rust from joints, the interior plastic was falling off, and after reaching 120 on the freeway I very quickly slowed down as the car was almost undriveable at that speed.

Quite frankly, they should all be taken off the roads and shipped back to China - horrible cars!

Ok, I have a have had a Hover for 2 years now and except for a clutch problem (which they replaced at no charge) we have had no real problems. Also take into consideration that we do mountain climbing and regularly take the car out on bad dirt roads. I'll admin it wont do what the Fortuner and that class can do but for the price I've found the car to be very nice and big enough for the family to go camping in remote locations for weeks.

As for the rattles in the previous post I have none of that.

You are one of the lucky ones, obviously. I would seriously have written this car off if I had continued to drive at 120...it was unbelievably bad, as were the other 20 or so that were originally sold in our area. In the end, the dealer took many of therm back and used them as demo stock, and then closed that side of the business.
