This is an often asked question and there's not really a "definitive" answer. When to bulk/cut.

I have been working out for a while and muscles are coming along quite nicely -however body fat is quite high (I am prone to love handles of extreme magnitude).

Should I jus try go full bear mode and keep lifting really heavy things or shed fat down to say 14% and start again.

Note as a guesstimate I am around 20% - 25% BF

I look something like this

Hey man

I would suggest you start dropping bf.You cant get ripped and gain muscle at the same time unless you
a. really know what you a doing,
b. are using steroids.

I would honestly just try and work in an extra 45 mins of cardio a day and stick with what you are doing now.

Thanks, just bleak cutting because the strength gains have been really nice. Cutting will impede my progress. But yeah guess starting again with less fat would be better, otherwise I might have 20% to lose which would suck so much.

I;ve been there and done that. I have put on 20kg of mass just to then go and loose 15 kg of fat.Take it from me, do it slowly and the muscle will stay. All the best.

so by heavy things you mean barbells and dumbbells. please go on and share how heavy the bells you lift are. I have this feeling there's a case being overstated here

Isn't that guy like 5 inches taller than you though?

Anyway I'd say just clean bulk, keep lifting and add some extra cardio twice a week.

Stay safe OP and say no to drugs, not even once.

Quite possibly maybe even 6 inches, yeah thinking of starting either tennis or just running. My dwarf legs have always been ill adapted to cardio

Lol thanks, btw , how is your diet looking?

Getting lean is 80% diet. We all hear everyone saying that but it really is true. It's easy for the average person to get to 14-15% body fat and be muscular but to maintain a decent amount of muscle and get below 12% body fat your diet has to be right. Which means eating 6 to 7 smaller meals a day and watching your macros. Sure you can eat fewer bigger meals but it does not work as well unless you have the genetics to shred fat easily.

Keep lifting heavy. It's a myth that you should do lighter weights with more reps and less rest to get shredded. Just add in some cardio, preferably first thing in the morning on an empty stomach of after a coffee.

My gymming/eating is a bit OCD but who wants to look 40 when they hit 40? My training routine never changes too much but if I slack a bit on my diet (slacking still being very clean by most people's standards) then I go from striated and vascular to looking like a normal biggish oke within weeks. Unless you're genetically gifted or a kid around 21 then you can't eat like everyone else and expect to look better than everyone else.

Abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym.

I am currently not gyming at the moment as I simply do not have time. However, I am trying to lose weight, mostly stomach and the love handles. I'm not a fat guy just unfortunate to have a rather large stomach for my size.

Currently I'm dieting as follows:

Breakfast:

2 - 3 boiled eggs (only the white)
Jungle oats (makes me feel sick but I just eat a bit)

10:00am: nuts (a handful of nuts just to keep me full)

4:00pm: fruit

Lunch: grilled chicken breast with veggies or grilled chicken salad.

Dinner: same as lunch usually.

Now I don't know much about losing weight so I hope this diet will help me. I have 4 months to lose this stomach fat before my wedding.

You should seriously consider banting. That is what my dad did 4 months before my sister's wedding, just so that he could fit into one of his old suits.

Stay away from the free weights and focus on the circuit and cardio. Sort your body fat then push weights.

To lose your body fat, you need to burn more calories than you consume per day. Get a way of working out your calorie intake and work from there. You are eating way to few times to be on a program that will help you build muscle. Probably the reason you are sitting with the problem you have now. You need to eat small healthy high protein meals around 5 - 7 times a day. And shakes in-between.

Obviously this varies from person to person. Maybe go see a dietician

My advice is just carry on as you have been. After a while you'll just be a large slab of muscle. Some people aren't cut out to be Mr. Westcoasts.
