Looking for a weight lifting gym in Cape Town - observatory /salt river / Woodstock / Goodwood side.

All i need is a squat rack, a bench and a pull up bar. Everything else is a bonus. Haha

I'm currently at Virgin Active N1 city. It's becoming a chore to travel there after / before work. And besides that they are super full peak times.

For the price you pay annually have you considered buying the equipment yourself?

Not to answer for OP, but I've also considered buying, however, in my case the lack of space is a serious problem :(

Yea, lack of space is also my issue hence why I have switched to calisthenics for now.

Looking at the price of a gym membership I would rather make other arrangements though.

I am on discovery can get a membership for next to nothing but time is a limiting factor for me. I find it so much easier to work out and stay motivated when I can cut out all the issues of getting to and from a gym

Have you had a look at Crossfit D6 (District 6)?

It's bit far down for you but the Sports Science Institute in Newlands is excellent:

I don't know if UCT would let you use their gyms in Mowbray but they're also well equipped.

Grab something like this for pull ups:

You can find them cheaper, just takes a bit of looking.

Look up "Barstarzz" on Youtube for exercises that you can do without gym equipment. I've added some of the stuff they do to my routine and it's working muscles I never knew I had before. "Scooby1961" also has some great exercises you can do with minimal equipment.

I need to add i have a barbell and dumbells with a total of 50KG weight plates. I need a gym for heavy ass deadlifts and squats. As for YouTube, i have seem and watched them all. Best by far is Scooby for home workouts. Scott Herman. The hodgetwins are funny but take their info with a grain of salt. Barstarz trying to be the new Hannibal. If there was only one person I follow on YouTube, that person would have to be Elliot Hulse.

Now with regards to gyms. Anybody that has enough capital, please open one in Observatory close to salt river side :D.

VA N1 City is by far the best gym in Cape Town as far as I'm concerned (not that I've been to them all :)) Also they aren't that full...even in peak times. Ever seen the Stellenbosch VA?

Anyway what about that fitness zone or zone fitness whatever the hell its called, I think there's one in Main road near Rondebosch if that's close to you.

I miss the days of VA N1 City :( That gym was epic. Old style equipment, never an issue to get space in the squat racks, loved it.

Nowadays, I gym during lunch at VA Wembly square in town. Its about 5min drive away from our offices, do a nice session, take shower, go back to work, is pretty awesome, and they also have the proper zest dip bars and pull-up bars and if I go at 12 I always get a spot in the squat racks, also they have like 3-4 flat benches for bench press which also helps.

i found VA n1 city much worse then tygervalley.

equipment was old and the showers was smelly!
Tygervalley has more equipment and they newer !

I went to Zone Fitness in Rondebosch for a while. It is about R250 a month and isn't too bad except for being a little small. They maintain their equipment well and the instructors are friendly and helpful.

Instructors are friendly but their equipment often breaks and their weights are all over the place. Or the dumbells are missings the other.
