The Stormers on Monday confirmed that Springbok wing Bryan Habana has partially torn ligaments to his left knee, after their 36-34 Vodacom Super Rugby win over the Chiefs on Saturday.
Although Habana would not have to undergo surgery to the knee, the World Cup winning speedster was expected to be unavailable for 10 weeks.
"When you lose a Springbok and a quality player like Bryan, it's never an ideal situation, but we're getting Jaco Taute back," coach Allister Coetzee said.
"Gerhard van den Heever played very well when he came on, and Gio Aplon played just as well, so we have enough replacements there.
"We wish Bryan well for a speedy recovery and when he returns he'll be back in the mix, but our focus is fully on the replacements now."
Also on the injury list were Michael Rhodes (hamstring), centre Juan de Jongh (hamstring), and fullback Jaco Taute (groin area), who would continue with one-on-one rehabilitation this week.
The three were expected to be ready for full training next week -- ahead of the Stormers' next match against the Brumbies at Newlands on March 23, allowing Coetzee time to have his players back to full fitness.
"The bye has come at a good time for us, as it will allow these few injury niggles that we have to clear up and, importantly, it will also allow us to take stock of where we're at after our first three games," Coetzee said.
