Do isp's even care about hacked isp accounts?

I heard there are people out there with literally lists of accounts and passwords, how do they optain them, are they prints from inside ISP's?

i recently was given a "uncapped" account from some stupid kid on a forum, being the curious nut that i am i checked to see if the account was legit, well guess what, it was..

Fighting the temptation to browse etc. (thank you telkominternet, im capped :D I changed back to my helkom account and proceeded to find out exactly who to report this to....

Someone did tell me they were going to resolve this issue and thanked me for my honesty. Now 3 days later i just wanted to make sure if the account was fixed, guess what, its still open and working.

Could it be that this account could be some sort of ISP test account? or not belonging to a client?

Or could it just be that the specific ISP really doesnt care when it comes to account security?

My question is arent the people responsible for most of the bandwidth theft employees of ISP's themselves?

Still fighting the tempation, still capped, must...not...access.......the...account..

i know how , its the stupid routers and people not changing the default passwords , its easy to break into a router and if you break into a router you just copy and paste username and password, dont think the isp cares as its a uncapped account , they would wait until the client who is using the account complains of low speeds etc

Low speeds?

More like less bandwidth.

Well im phoning @lantic to inform them, i dont want dodgy bandwidth anywhere near me. Just hope to God they dont persue me too. I logged on to it so my IP will show up there. I only used about 10mb's but thats enough to get me into deep trouble.

im phoning anyway, wish me luck!

Cool just did it, they thanked me and told me that not alot of people in my position would have informed them :) shame now that ive done my good deed for the day im out! :D

..... want me to test if too? :)

...considering its not capped bandwidth, you're not stealing anything... :p

Good job! Could have been a business that needs that connectivity (probably is actually) and this may not have been achieved with the limited concurrent connections and continued sharing.

I find it disgusting how some people can do this and think it's "OK - they left their authentication details on default and it's so easy to crack it, so they were asking for it."

Churches leave money donations on the table - why not steal from a church then? You leave your washing out to dry and it gets stolen - I hope these same people don't complain if that happens because they were "stupid enough to leave their expensive clothes outside".

Stealing is stealing bottom line. If the fact that it is bandwidth blinds you then you are very small-minded. You also need to grow up if you think it's OK to take something because it is "so easy to". You did the right thing!

Good thing you did report it and "clear your name". If they followed up with it and you popped up, you could face legal issues.
Your IP won't show up there, however your NAT port number will (like the MAC address for a network interface card), which is unique.

well done saffakanera!!! :)

we definitely need a lot more honest people like you

Isn't uncapped accounts normally limited to one concurrent connection anyway? So you can't use two separate lines.

its pretty easy to find/obtain hacked accounts - its also pretty easy for them to investigate who's using the hacked account as well.

my bad i see your point now lol!!!! then theres no probs? i would just use that thing how long i want lmfao!!!!! btw what if they find out and i end up in jail

If they find out...You will get a knock on the door in about 8+months. Then you have some problems :D

I think then you have a choice. Pay the admission of quilt fine or prove you did not use it...it is a painstakingly long process - they do take your router&/PC sometimes as well - not 100% sure how it works again.

I can confirm this, a friend of mine had obtained one of these lists from a "LAN" and was told by someone that it is a list of ADSL accounts along with passwords, reasoning that his dad is one of the bosses of some ISP.

My friend had been using these accounts for several months, before I eventually convinced him to stop. :)

Almost 1 year later, police came knocking at his door, took all his harddrives as he wouldn't give up his PC. Then took him to the police station for documentation etc. Either to appear in court or to pay a fine of R1500.

I do not encourage bandwidth theft in any way
However, I have heard now that due to the amount of bandwidth theft cases throughout the country, people are just getting out of it as though its a speed fine. No criminal record or anything is kept.

This is due to the fact that most people are using these accounts, under belief that they belong to someone they know, or they have permission to use them.

Apparently about 200 of these cases are reported each month countrywide.

You are forgetting that there is a monthly threshold on uncapped accounts.
