Hackers hit Google

There are more to come. Of that we can be sure. Expect Google to up their game though. They are not that stupid. I do respect the skills of these hackers though. Disruptive as they are they do have skills. If only they can apply them more constructively. Like hitting Telkom where it hurts... :D

Interesting... not really the typical defacement that people go in for. I'd love to see what kind of security google runs.

Correct? If so, this is just another worm, and most of the people dumb enough to click on something & get their PC "infected", will be using IE...

ROFL :D

I use an IE-based browser (www.maxthon.com), and have used Spybot to immunize, and to date (3 years or so) not one dodgy thing has happened to it.. no spy things, no dodgy pr0n ads, nothing.. you can even block Google ads.. until Firefox has the features Maxthon has I'm more than happy to stick with it.

Anyway, it's only n00bs who download suspect items like the google hijacker.. shame.. they'll learn someday :)

Not really google that got hacked. More like PC's getting infected, and getting redirected to a site that isn't google, but looks like it.

Nothing much google can, or should do about it.

yeah google is just used as a tool for hackers, to actually hack google though would take more than skills, I'm talking hectic guessing work and black box testing (which is hard to do on a live host without them spotting you)

because none of the software google runs is available anywhere else and you definatly wont see any source code anywhere.

normal hacking is pretty simple, you just grep source for the ussualy attacks like format string bugs, no bounds checking on arrays or buffers (all the stack based attacks like buffer overflow.. integer overflow etc etc to overwrite the EIP) or your more traditional web attacks, like SQL injection or what ever but the thing is you couldnt use these attacks on google because even the HTTPd they use is thier own software... to actually penetrate google through thier own software would involve alot of luck and you'd be found out pretty quickly too

Thats why the only major attacks before on google were power based ones like DDoS attacks etc and even then I think the main google site was down for like 25 minutes and the attackers rounded up gbits of data. Google makes thier own software and thier main business is a website... you can bet your ass they have some of the best security experts surveying code and probably some crazy automated scripts built into the compilers

A trailing ')' problem with your url ;).

How is maxthon[g] better than Firefox [ATM]?
- I don't want to start a flamewar - just asking :D.
lolol.. thanx ic, i are be fanking you very muchly.. :)

by the way - the article's title is completely incorrect, Google wasn't hacked.. chances are they never will be either.. a lot of intelligence at the Googleplex.... it's not like the people who think up the prices at Telkom.
