Hackers hit internet bank clients

1 reason why I am still with FNB - the client wil be reimbursed.

Does Virgin money gaurantee this ???

I use the digitag whichmakes me feel a little better! ;)

But if they get in other ways then I suppose it means nothing.

It at least makes the banks aware that they need to step up their security!!!
 
sa banks security is a bit, how you say, mediocare. plus, I wouldn't be suprised if they were "hacked" using the same methods as of that from a few years ago with the ABSA thing.

they learnt something new though, instead of transferring the money to an easily traceable bank account, they sent it to prepaid things like cellphones, which (these days) you're able to send that money onward to other phones. So they could easily make real money by selling and sending the required prepaid airtime to whomever is buying it from them, or even fund a syndicates prepaid needs...
 
I think that the ABSA users where caught out with keyloggers. Gaining an Account number via keylogging/phishing is one thing. Breaking into a Banks website directly is another.

Damn, maybe i should change career.

Luckily I'm with Nedbank (although, the fact that they weren't hacked probably indicates nothing - most likely not telling).
 
Hopefully banks will wake up now and apply the same security to a new cellnumber it does to new beneficiary additions. Personally I would like the prepaid option on my internetbanking disabled..
 
Of course Nedbank is hacked, they have the laxest security but they are very quiet about it in the media. Ask my dad about how he had his bank account cleaned out.
 
Quite concerning in this day and age how this type of thing can still happen. :(
Just last week (or the week before) a company in US (think it was GoldLeaf) that acts as middleman for banks got compromised, over 300 banks affected. :eek:

I would advise the banks to use OTP's like FNB. Also they (OPT's) should be freely available to their clients.
