I was around this, and am still in contact with kokey :D
(they got his nick wrong)

Back in 1997 there was an 0800 dialup number that was given to employees from IS with a pop user/password. Icon back in the day. After a "bill mix-up" and a very rude employee, I managed to ...er... acquire her credentials and enjoy free dialup for quite a while.

Back in the day all you needed was an 0800 dial up. No more R7 weekends.

I had an 0800 dial up number for a while - but then I lost it.

But I remember stories of people getting some hefty fines for illegally using those numbers.

Considering the owner of the number gets the bill for your use, I should hope so.

Interestingly I remember a certain 'digest' floating around on BBS's as well as on the internet (relating to the S.A. scene), can't find any trace of it...

Lol! Excellent read - memory lane :)

Sounds like the good old days where IRC was pretty much the only "IM" service out there :p

/gzline Breacher!*@*.myip.co.za 24h :D

Which servers did you guys chat on in those days?
