Hackintosh?

Going to check it out now. Thanks for the tip. My biggest constraint is that I have a win7 laptop and the netbook on which I want to install Oscar currently has winxp. Thanks for the link

AcetoneISO would be the easiest to use for most people as it's GUI driven, I've used it before to convert dmg images to iso images.

Don't bother. Been there, done that - it doesn't work as it should.

Just buy a frekkin PC with Windows and get over it.

If you want OSX then get a proper Mac.

I built a MacPro Hackintosh for half the price of a real MacPro. It's been running stably for well over a year now and it does everything me MacBook Pro does, just faster. Just like somebody else posted all you need to do is get the right motherboard and everything will work 100% right out the box. Laptops may require some more tinkering but if you can't get that right these days you should probably not consider a career in IT.

Everythings working except iMessages, I have tried the imessages chimera fix but no luck?

Had to change plist and enter correct hardware uuid to get imessages working.

The only thing I ever struggled on 3 different hackintoshes that I built was with audio over HDMI. It involved some complicated dsdt editing and I wasn't in the mood for having to re-install when I broke something. Besides that, everything worked great.

Can you provide specs of the hardware on your hackintosh

Not sure if it has been mentioned before, but if you'd like to play around with OSX, just install it in a VM using VMWare. You would need to convert the installer DMG to ISO, and Mac OS X Unlocker for VMware. Runs like a charm :)

Been running Mountain lion on Acer 5630 with 4gb ram for 2 days now as my main OS, dumped windows 8 and have not really looked back as of yet.

Question, Can I update mountain lion to 10.8.4?

One of iATKOS or tonymac advises you download the self updater rather than using the auto updater.

So I decided to install iPhoto 1gb download, import some photos, show's thumbnail, click edit and no image appears.

Google search shows that couple of people are having that issue since previous versions.

If you use an iATKOS ML2 dmg and VirtualBox then you won't need to convert it. Pretty Simple proccess:

1) Create a new VM. Set the type as Mac OS X (64-bit)
2) Set it up using all the regular settings.
3) Do not start it yet. First you need to go to the VM settings and disable EFI.
4) Mount the disc in the virtual machine. Start it up.
5) Install regularly. You don't need to customize anything. BUT you do need to partition your virtual hard drive using disk utility.
6) At the end the installer will crash and say you need to hold the power button blahblahblah...
7) Close the VM (Power off the virtual machine)
8) Umount the dmg
9) Start it up and it should be working out of the box without any boot flags.

Detailed guide here:

Using a virtual machine is useful if you need to create a Unibeast drive or MyHack or Kakewalk or whatever.
And I don't think the host OS matters I'm doing it in Ubuntu Linux.

So I recently got an Upgrade to my Acer, a travelmate P453 i5 4gb ram with HD4000 graphics.

I have got everything working except HD4000, not in system info or QC or accelerated graphics, cant adjust memory size in Acer bios and of course wifi.

I have a Samsung NP300E5C-A02ZA (SandyBridge, i3, Some junk Samsung MB)

What isn't working:

Brightness control (No DSDT)

Built in speakers (Using VoodooHDA 282 gives me Headphone sound while using other versions give me a loud screech from the speakers, Larsen Effect)

Ethernet (Realtek RTL8111 should work but doesn't)

QE/OpenGL Acceleration, HD3000 (No idea - I can get the native res, Could be "Intel Graphics Patch for Mixed Configuration" From MultiBeast)

Trackpad is buggy. (Moving to the very top edge causes it to reset to the middle of the screen)

WiFi (Atheros 9485 not supported, probably won't be soon)

guy on forum advised me in order to get most things working on my new travelmate I need to install windows7/8 as "base" os and then use vmware workstation 9 to install mountain lion in virtual pc, itll slow down the pc a bit BUT apparently I can use Win7/8 wifi and I should be able to get Graphics acceleration.

So downloading vmware workstation 9 , when I get a chance will try and set it up.

I'm gonna give this a try. I have a Quad Core pc lying around doing nothing, so perfect to tinker with and see if it can be done. It's got an MSI board though, so not sure if it's supported, but it will be a fun exercise to go through on the weekend.

Can be very frustrating but you learn along the way, many people take days to figure something out so if you stumble try here or google.

I'm switching over to a Travelmate (not really supported), I have some time on my hands today, so far did a clean install with only network drivers on the travelmate of osx mountain lion, installed fusion.
Removed hdd from new laptop, attached to old Acer Extensa running Mountain Lion.
Using disk utility created a blank 60gb image .cdr
Cloned Travelmates hdd to this image.
Now to mount it in fusion and create vmware image on Travelmate.
Then Install windows 8 on Travelmate and load vmware Workstation 9.
Loadup OSX image created on Fusion, now loaded as virtual pc in Workstation 9.
Then try and get wifi and graphics acceleration working..........

It's a mission , lol
