Trying macbook for the first time

Why would you need to create a new Apple ID if you already have an iPhone and iPad? Surely you’d have one already.
work laptop vs personal iphone and ipad. My ipad has seen things that i dont even want to risk syncing to the laptop. Things are better after 2 days but 2 things are still making me struggle is having to hold a key to right click and everytime i plug the 2 screens in the dock seems to have a lottery moment of which screen it will assign itsself.

Fix your link - it's pointing to https//www.raycast.com (no colon)

What ports do you need?
short of buying a mouse for R1.5k you still need the old usb port rather than a c. bought my self a multiport hub off amazon that solved it but still a R10k laptop has more ports than a R30k mba. Not having a a hdmi port when 99% of hot desks have hdmi cables not thunderport/usb c is a issue i did not think about. multiport hub solves this but just irritating.

Did you check the trackpad options? Tapping two fingers on it is a right click.

Ah yes

1. I find that if I unplug the dock before closing the lid and the do the same in reverse then it remembers the window positions.

2. Yeah, we switched to monitors with built in usb-c / thunderbolt and multiple ports on the monitors for all the desks about two years ago so that issue went away.

I am a Windows user primarily but also have an M1 Air I use occasionally. The weirdest thing is where the menu bar goes. On Mac it takes over the top menu bar whereas in Windows it remains in the app. Other oddities of course but that one catches me.

Windows are independent from the Apps in MacOS.

The Menu bar doesn’t go anywhere it’s always in the same place unlike Windows.

Well that’s why the MacBook Pro exists because it adds those things.

For everything else…wireless has been a thing for more than a decade…who still plugs in a mouse and keyboard?

You clearly don’t want to be helped and be an askhole instead it seems.

We’ve told you multiple times how to right-click but you’ve ignored it…besides the fact you could Google it too.

There is no need to hold a key…just used two fingers. There’s literally a video for it right there in the settings too.

uBar makes the best Start Menu replacement. I used the dock since Mac OSX Tiger days but always liked the Start menu better and uBar allows that :)

dont believe in wireless mouse. wired is where its at. just yesterday had to lend my mouse to someone in a meeting cause they started panicking the dongle was not working.

And Apple doesn’t believe in USB-A on everything, so you are exactly the same.

You don’t need a dongle, it’s all Bluetooth. You could still have lent them a mouse without any problem.

However you no longer need a mouse, you have the best trackpad in the world now that actually works.

Only if you read and accept the answers and start using two fingers to right-click.

This is not an Apple thing by the way, every modern laptop with a buttonless trackpad works like this.

And if you are still so die hard about using a mouse instead you can just enable the right-click for it in System Settings. No need for keyboard buttons.

When i change to iphone it was amazing. when i bought my first ipad it was a come to jesus moment. This week i got a macbook air m4 for work so for the first time i got to try it out. F**K me is it the most difficult piece of machinery to try use. I appreciate i am biased to windows with so many years of use but the change is blowing my brain at the moment. Took me 5 different attempts to create a apple account for it. The 5th attempt was going on windows laptop to the apple site and doing it there (it worked). Why are there no ports on this besides 2???? Is right click on the mouse pad patented by microsoft or am i missing something why they dont have right click? Hope this is first week jitters
Nope right click works on a few DEs for Linux distros

Use your current mouse with a cheap usb a to c adapter.

It doesn't sound like portability/mobility is that important to you, so a hub shouldn't impact your life negatively.

As for right/secondary clicking, as it's been pointed out, you have options.

For general navigation once I switched to a Mac trackpad I didn’t look back - it’s just so much better.

I only use a mouse for design / cad work on Mac. On windows, the trackpads are so poor that I use a mouse exclusively.

Wireless mice have a come a long, long way (tbf, I use mice that are gaming capable so they tend to be higher quality) - in over 30 years of using computers daily (it’s my job and hobby) I’ve had mouse buttons dying on me but never an outright dongle failure.

A Short cut commands

Command + C = Copy
Command + V = paste

Once you Mac you never go back. Give it time, you'll appreciate it eventually. Mac just works.

Gary Rosenzweig is possibly the OG of Mac tutorials.
