You mentioned that one can game on a Mac, a Gaming Mac for that matter. So I got a price on the iStore website of a 27" iMac that is capable of running games at a decent resolution, and decent frame rate.

Of course one can game on a Mac. I play Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 every now and then. Worms Revolution, Borderlands 2, Fallout 3. All on my rMBP.

Fanbois calm down. There is no good or bad here. Each has its own purpose and its place. OP might prefer the UI of Mac but that doesn't mean Windows and Linux are bad or vice versa. Just get what works for you.

I agree but OS X is not a serious gaming platform, neither is Linux which I'm typing this from. They're fine for casual gaming but if you wanna play FC 4, Crysis 3, Witcher 3, MGS Phantom Pain, GTA V, Battlefield 4 etc etc etc you not going to do that on Linux or OS X no matter how great one thinks OS X is.

Agreed. I have 3 Macs at home and game on none of them. One is a Mac Mini which I use now and then as a Steam Machine to stream games from my i5 4690K/GTX970 Windows gaming PC.

However, I prefer my Macs for everything else. I've loaded OS X on the Windows machine and got everything working with minimal hassle. The App Store, iMessage, FaceTime etc all work perfectly. I even hooked up a Apple bluetooth keyboard and Magic Trackpad with no issues. Fantastic machine for iMovie and Final Cut Pro. The fact remains though that Apple don't make computers that are cost effective for gaming and game publishers aren't too concerned to port too many games since it's too much effort for so little reward. This situation won't change for a very long time.

I'm glad we're all agreement that one can play plenty of games on a Mac.

The only 'desktop' Mac I would buy would be a gaming Hackintosh which dual boots Windows for those games not available on Mac.

Wouldn't touch an iMac...

That's because I have no use for them. At work I use MS Dynamics NAV and O365. At home I want Steam on an OS where it has the most games. Whatever he wants to do on a hackintosh laptop can be done on a much beefier and cheaper Windows 10 one.

Do because you have no use them, nobody else does.

You probably also tell everyone that they never need to drive anything more than a Polo, because you have no need for one.

Get some variety in your life man.

I have no idea what MS Dynamics even is, but I'll have iWork over Office any day and I don't care to play games on a PC.

And when you find me a decent photo manager for Windows that can replace iPhoto then we can talk.

I sadly had to go through the ordeal of switching to Windows as my daily OS recently. I'm still awaiting satisfaction and for things to work as they should.

It's a broken useless mess compared to OSX. Just because something is more popular doesn't automatically make it better.

Fair enough.

I think I fell in love with OSX because Linux as a desktop failed me more so than Windows did.

It really is the best of both worlds.

OSX Server though is a whole different ballgame and only works in very very specific small business environments that are all Apple from start to finish. But then I also haven't used that since 10.5.

Most of those things if not all of them are easily offered by Linux of any flavour.
