Hackulous is gone

Yeah look I get where you are coming from as a developer.

But as a consumer I feel a trial/demo should be mandatory OR an easier refund system should be available to consumers.

Like someone else said above I've "chanced" a number of Apps because they had no trial/demo and got shafted for doing so. Then I simply let it slide because a refund is a massive pain in the ass.

I agree, however, in those situations, if you aren't happy with the lack of a lite version, then vote with your wallet and get some other app. Don't steal

Elaborate on the devaluing part please?

Lets use cars as an analogy.
You want a Ferrari, but you can't afford one or are just too cheap.
So what you do is get a molecular assembler, and make an exact copy.
This has the effect of devaluing the Ferrari, as now poor people have Ferrari's. And Ferrari expressly do not want that.
You might not like it, but it is THEIR f***ing company and THEIR f***ing car, not yours.

So what you're saying is, you'd rather have the poor people suffer for your own enrichment?

Yes.
It is my company. If I don't want poor people to be able to afford my product, then that is up to me.

Says a lot about you as a person.

If I had a "molecular assembler", I would give cars to poor people. Give them the software they need. Give them the education they need. That's the only way we'll improve the state of the world.

Good for you. But this is still a free country, and that choice is up to each person.
You want to give away or devalue your own work, then do so.
But don't take my work and devalue it. That is the work of a thief

You're fighting a losing battle with your "I'll charge what I want for it" mentality. Either people will pirate it, or a free version will be made available.

You can rant and rave on message boards, but honestly, a huge number of people couldn't give a **** what you think about your overpriced software. And they care even less about being called "thieves" by the way.

Well, lets hope those people get a visit by some burglars that will come and redistribute their wealth

Alternatively the developer should make his app less easy to pirate.

If you search for our software on Google then the second suggestion by Google suggest is "product_name crack" which shows it's searched for often. It's never been cracked since we specifically considered this and built our license system to be hard to break.

Every now and again I'll check sites like astalavista to see if there is a crack. None in years ...

Oh and we offer a fully functional 30 day trial.

Or lack of interest. I'm sure MS/Adobe/etc built their licence systems to be hard to crack as well. If you get a good cracker interested, I'm sure he'll break it.

Sure. We're not Adobe or Microsoft. Probably wouldn't be hanging out here then ... ;)

I used to reverse engineer virusses and copy protection when I was young. Make it difficult enough and most will give up. There's a point where it's not fun anymore. Unless it's a high profile target and you're trying to prove something.

Yep

Installios is so 2010.
Waaaay easier ways to get "trail ware" :)

Call me trailer trash, ****witt, loser or whatever you feel like, makes no difference to me, if I wanna download something for free I will do so.

Does that mean that all my software is pirated - No, I have bought loads of software, some even twice.
Did I buy stuff that I previously pirated - hell yes, esp stuff that came on Steam specials.
Will I continue to pirate, HELL YES, nothing you do or say will ever change my mind.
Am I a developer, yep and my company makes a living writing custom apps.

My only pain with pirating is when you make money using my software then I would like some in return, if you use it at home to keep your monthly budget then go on ahead see if I care.

Out if interest, how much does your app cost @JStrike?

Mind to share what app it is?

My iPad 2 is jail broken and I test an app before I buy it. As someone mentioned earlier, you are not really going try to dispute a 0.99$ transaction now are you? Yes, you will just let it slide.

Companies should offer trials. Releasing a trial also tells me the company behind the app is confident in what they are selling.

Unfortunately I can't give any details :)

We don't have a problem with piracy, however, that doesn't change the principle. People that take any product without paying for it as per the Dev's wishes, it is thief.
People can dress it up as "trialing" or whatever they want, but it is still theft.
Yes, the Dev should release a lite version, but ff the Dev doesn't want you to trial it, then that is the end of it. It is not permission to steal it.

I understand your motivations are not evil, but then nether is the poor burglar that breaks into your house

I like Windows version of trail system, even when people found ways to make the trail more permanent. Also I own way to many crap apps than I would like to admit all because of already mentioned price and return issues. Guess a lot of people make a living on those bloody impulse buy's.

Sorry to go of topic but are you using auto-correct? :) Trial is becoming trail. I know my iPad does it all the time and it makes me look like a complete schmuck at times. Have to keep going back and edit my spelling.
