Not gonna happen. The CEO of Nuance is a notoriously proprietorial mofo. He has no reason to sell - Nuance being extremely profitable - and a line out the door of licensees from cars to tablets to input systems.

Lol whatever, oh mighty superdeveloper. I release my apps for free, and see no need to charge extortionate prices for it. I donate to free and open source projects. I do not, however, pay for apps. And R500 - R800 for new games? Bullshyte.

There are other models as well.

You can charge for software, or you can charge for support, pity in some cases (Looking at you Microsoft) you can charge for both.

Nope I am not saying that, I was answering zippy on his question on how Bar0n makes a living if he gives software away. Nothing in my comment was about validating piracy.

The whole debate is moot since pirating on iOS just got even easier. You don't even need to jailbreak now in order to pirate.

I've got a job as a programmer too. I work in the pharmaceutical industry as a SAS programmer, which basically means my programs are more of a "service" (i.e. information to data, statistics, etc) than a compiled program.

My mobile apps and other .NET apps I own, I give away for free.

Sounds like you've got a nice little business model worked out. Pity those who have to rely purely on sales of software for their income hey.

in a perfect world, lite versions would be nice. however, it is a lot more than "just disable some features". if you actually work in software, you understand this.

the app store/os's should have built in "trial" support. install an app, and it expires in 1 hour, x days, etc, all built into the OS, no need for devs to do anything.

Someone somewhere will always hack it. Nothing is unhackable. It's still a pretty good concept. I remember listening to a podcast from the creator of Instapaper about the issue of disabling features on free vs paid apps. He said you had to be quite strategic to find the points that customers would pay to get the extra, but still get an adequate feel for the app's capabilities. Not that easy to accomplish.

Well we looking at a module, model.

App for free, and all modules work for the 1st month. After this month period the modules can be unlocked for X amount each(Think $1). That way we don't charge people for crap they do not need.
