Had enough...logging complaint against IS.

OK, who agrees with Abe? - If it's not worth it, then I'll let it go - NO problem.

If you've got issues with the local speed in general then dont drop it but dont expect any resolution through hello peter. Rather lay a complaint against your ISP with ICASA.

If your complaint is centred around the news servers though, then I doubt its worth the effort.

That may be so, but it would be extremely unwise to lodge a complaint about a service that you are using for either p0rn or pirate software. The only possible conclusions to such a complaint are:

1) IS gets slapped on the wrist and discontinues the service
2) You complaint gets thrown out as illegal or frivilous
Exactly. If you have problems with your local speeds in general, contact your ISP as it is their responsibility to sort it out.

Thank you for the replies...I shall do that. Equinox, did IS give openweb an explanation on why the server is responding so poorly?

Proff

proff let me explain something to you

before IS local we paying through our asses for bandwidth

we now have cheap local bandwisth and are able to pirate international things while using local bandwidth

i dont think 30-40 kb is bad

plz tell me what program your using and how many servers your connecting to since your an expert

if you read the IS news server is down thread 90% of it had nothing to do with the actually server hahah :)

killadoob...herewith the information you requested:

Server: news.is.co.za / news.isdsl.co.za / 196.26.208.123 /196.26.208.126
Port:119

I also have access to a paid account on unlimited.newshosting.com port:119,7000,8000,9000 which gives me full access and full speed on my SAIX based account.

I have used both Newsbin and Grabit...same thing.

killadoob...I am making use of the IS/Openweb. I do not split the files.

Proff

well maybe split the files half half and see what happens i do that and before i got capped i was averaging 35kbs

He's referring to the practice of downloading half of the binaries with one of IS' servers and the other half with the other IS server - thereby splitting the load and doubling your total number of connections.

well what ive notice is it doesnt double

1 will go at 4 connections and the other 1-2 connections :)

but that still gives good bandwidth

I may be going off the wrong end here but complaining about a service that you're undoubtedly using to pull warez, tv shows and other not so legal content off the net via the IS news server is going to achieve what exactly?

You're going off the wrong end if you want to absolve IS from providing a decent level of service simply because of a presumption of what people are using it for. :)

I agree with bwana. Let's not go there. bwana, which two are you using for load balancing?

I dont have the luxury of using two due to a software limitation. but as long as the two you are using have different IP's they should be fine to use concurrently.

OK, thanks...does Grabit cater for it to be configured that way? - I'm used to Newsbin which I like for various reasons.

iirc you simply need to create the second server with grabit, then highlight half of the files, alt-click, and select 'Download with other server' (or something to that effect).

proff my advice is do not use newsbin

i tried it and it sucks i think

grabit is very easy to use and setup and i get better speeds with it, dunno if that just a coincidink :)
