Hail the smartphone

One in five iPhone users on Vodacom purchase additional data bundles. Now, this could be because Vodacom only bundles 250MB of data a month on its iPhone contracts... That said, Uys says that by their third month of owning an iPhone, subscribers use 50% more data than they did in month one.

Well, don't tell me that wasn't VC's plan right from the start. More ching, ching for them...

I am still using my Nokia 1208, black&white screen, and does the job!

A smart-phone is like a slow, hard to use laptop, right?

My mom has the iPhone and I just cant picture myself using it when I have my laptop with me all the time anyway.

Good to see that i'm not part of the 20% vodascum claims to have. Cant wait for cell c to turn on in pta. I'll definately be part of cell c's head count

Article is semi misleading. The "free" data bundle with the iPhone can be as little as 110MB if you got the phone on the TopUp275

Uys says that with data bundle re-pricing and repackaging, the effective price per megabyte has decreased by 16% y/y.

16%? Data pricing should be 16% of what it was last year, not just 16% less.

All those poor suckers paying R1,000 per Gig makes for some healthy profits, hey Vodacom?

Best budget smartphone anyone can get right now, is the HTC Wildfire.

I think that's why HTC called it the Wildfire, cos it's gonna spread like a bloody wildfire.

*I've been part of the 20% for the last two years & can't imagine just having sms and voice again. I'm screwed.

Buying a phone that is not a so called "smartphone" is like buying a computer that still boots up with a Floppy disk.

Somewhere I have one of those. Intel 8086, PC DOS 3.3 with WordStar, MultiPlan, VisiCalc. 384KB RAM. Green screen with a Hercules Card. It works.
On the other hand, I do have a 'smartphone'.

the 666 chip that was foretold in the bible is actually the smartphone. In no time they will be ubiquitous. And then all the apps like google latitude will mean the man can track us all the time[/tinfoil]

but fck it. i love my smartphone. i'll take my chances with the man.
