Half a million e-tags sold - SANRAL

How many cars use the freeways in Gauteng? Surely the 500k is just a fraction. Also, does it include the e-tags used at Zambezi drive, which have been in use for years already?

200k or so of which has been sold to "private" people. I'm wondering whether this includes the car rental places. It really wouldn't surprise me if it did, in order to lull people into feeling a bit of social pressure. I saw a couple of people in one of the stores yesterday, which annoyed me a bit. Fortunately the lady in the group then started shouting at the person on the other side of the counter, so I suspect she wasn't exactly purchasing an etag.
 
Same here in Midrand, nobody is using the stores or booths in the mall
 
Does anybody really trust SANRAL to speak the truth?

Maybe Ben should "apply his mind" (whatever that really means) right now and realise e-tolling is not going to happen.

Even if half a million tags were sold, which I seriously doubt, the rest of us will still not buy e-tags in a process of civil disobedience against ANC ministers mismanaging our tax money.
 
I hope people don't give into this propaganda and feel socially pressured into getting an e-tag. If you ask me, I actually think this is a clever move by SANRAL. Not many people use their brains, and if they hear that 500 000 people already bought e-tags, they're not gonna wonder whether SANRAL is lying - they're gonna look for the closest place to buy an e-tag. If the public wasn't so hell-bent on stopping e-tolling, SANRAL's statement would have held a hell of a lot more weight.

EDIT:

By the way, the article's title feels rather misleading. I believe it should be named "Half a million e-tags sold says SANRAL" or "SANRAL: Half a million e-tags sold".

I don't get why the thread title is so clear ("Half a million e-tags sold - SANRAL") while the article title is so misleading ("E-tags: half a million sold"). I really don't like it.

We all know SANRAL has a problem with mathematics.

5000 looks like 500 000 to them.

And when the tender for the original road upgrades and tolling project was originally presented to them, they thought R30 Billion was R30 000.
