Halp! I need to undelete urgently!

I accidentally trashed the wrong folder from my external hard drive. It had my entire mp3 collection in it. (Need 2 lrn 2 name folders properly!) Any suggestions on how to recover the folder. yes - I emptied trash too. So folder is gone! I have not written to the drive since then. So if there is a magic app that can recover, the files should be safe.

I have tried 3 file recovery apps which only pick up mp3's that exist on the drive. (even though all 3 apps claim to recover deleted files) The drive is formatted as NTFS. Any suggestions?

Tried: Remo Recover, File Salvage & Data Rescue - All 3 only pick up existing files - wtf?:confused:
 
I have used Recover My Files 3.98 Build 6043 in the past and it worked great. Googling a little, you should be able to find it. Good luck!
 
Have you got a magnet?
 
http://www.uneraser.com/ did the same on Windows back in the day, got all my music back (80 GB). It has to run on Windows thou and u need enough space for it to write the recovered data back to.

Existing files? strange. When I use File Salvage, it gets whatever is not over-written an no existing files. Try corresponding with SubRosaSoft on this - it could be a bug. Or, you said your ENTIRE mp3 collection and then that the apps are finding MP3s so what is the problem?

Perhaps existing = not yet deleted folder/files?
 
Did a search for mp3's and it ended up finding them but listed them as 00001.mp3, 00002.mp3 etc. Can't have mp3's without the proper file names... That would be a nightmare to re-name and sort through.

Instead, I booted up from my Windows drive and used Recuva. It worked well. Got everything back again. Just wanted to know if anyone had mac software that could do the trick... I am always saying you can do anything on a mac that you can do on a PC - After this exercise , It's everything but recover lost data easily.

I think the main problem was you were using a NTFS formatted drive. OsX struggles at best with those (but still does a better job than Windows and a HFS drive :))

Was thinking that too. Hope I never have to undelete files from my mac drive in windows. That might be a new experience... Although a Seagate app I downloaded claims it can do the job.
 
disk warrior, i used this to rebuild a San....if it cant recover...i think u may be outta luck

Interesting, I didnt know DW had a undelete. I'll have to check that out.

hmm, i may have jumped there a little too soon...
I used DW to recover corrupt partitions and rebuild the Raid.....not undelete...
I did use data rescue X for undeleting...from what i remember, it did an ok job...messed up file names though
