Hand signal for braking?

It looks like the brake light switch is stuck on my car so I've got to go get a replacement - can anyone tell me what SA's version of the stopping hand signal is?

BTW - has anyone here ever replaced this switch - it's an Audi A3.

hand out window, upper arm pointing out perpendicular to car, upper arm vertical (ninety degree elbow), hand open, palm facing forward

Out of interest, how'd you find out it was broken?

Also, there've been 4 different A3s over the past 15 years. Give the guys at Audi Forum a go, usually quite friendly.
 
I thought the signal is when you extended your hand out, palm facing down, and sort of "flap" your hand? Or is this just for slowing down? Maybe this needs to be used in conjunction with the earlier suggestion when slowing down to stop?
 
All fixed. The guy at the parts store even installed the new switch. :)

The brake lights wouldn't switch off.

UK and Ireland Extend your right arm directly out to the right parallel to the road with palm facing down and slowly wave the extended arm up and down. US and Canada Extend your left upper arm out to the left, parallel to the road and angle your forearm vertically downward. Italy Extend your right arm vertically, with palm facing forward. Australia, Denmark Extend your right arm vertically, with palm facing forward, or extend your right upper arm out to the right parallel to the road and make your forearm vertical with your palm facing forward.

I figured as much, it's just I battle to see my brake lights sitting in the driving seat :P
Just wondering if someone told you. You see so many people driving around without working lights these days, often just because they don't know it.

Whenever you have a chance to reverse near a shop window or reflective area, check your brake lights that way.

Yeah, where I park my car at night has walls all around, so for me it's not a problem, but you see so many people driving around at night without all their lights working.
