Hi Everyone

I have a problem here. The handbrake light on my car keeps on appearing even when my handbrake is released. I checked the brake fluid and it seems to be ok. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Could be something as simple as the sensor. What happens if you try and wiggle it in the down position?

We had this with our Lexus. Even if the amount of brake fluid seems fine, just add a bit. Fixed the problem straight away

Or maybe its just not releasing completely when you push the lever down? a fault that the garage might need to check

On a BMW 3 series it was a sensor - I forgot which one though.... Had to do with brakes

Your brake pads might be close to being finished.

On certain Subaru's they do this to warn you that you need to do a brake pad change soon.

If it's a VW the sensor is a switch below the handbrake - could be as simple as a piece of carpet or dirt not allowing the handbrake to fully come down.

Check the area, clean the sensor (it's just a push button) and it should be fine. If not, it's easy enough to replace.
