'Hands free' just as dangerous

how would they gonna enforce that if they wanted to tho? People can just claim they talking to themselves ;)

Aag thats nothing man. When I was still single and no cares in the world, I use to drive around allot for my work. I could pour coffee from the flask, talk on my cell and hold a sigarette all at once. I was lucky to never have had a crash....

Now I am married and have a baby girl. I drive like my ouma and refuse to eat, drink or even answer the phone in my car.

Strange how things change. I am now the one that (if I am driving allone and in my bakkie) if I see someone behind me talking on his cell while holding it to his/hers head........ SLAM ON MY BRAKES AND LMFAO at the person trying to avoid a crash.

yea know i can eat Mc donalds and talk on my sellphone at the same time drive with my legs mastered that a year ago mhauau

I had to drive with someone who did this.. lets just say i was not too keen when i had to go with not that anything ever happened but you never know. :o

tru if someone else did it i'dd also wonder "why am i driving with him?"

heh

/me wonders if there is a study about holding a conversation with your passengers.

I have seen people looking at their passengers while talking to them, so not only is their brain not concentrating on the road ... they're not even looking at the road.

At this rate, drivers will have to duct-tape their passengers mouths shut before starting the vehicle and driving off ... there again maybe that's not such a bad idea :D

In my single days I had off road bike (Yamha xt 500).
It all happened on a sunny day before work. You know how taxis always try and get to the front of the que no matter what? Even if they have to go past you on the yellow line. Well, as I was driving up to the red light, I saw this
ammadoda in his taxi talking on his cell and squeesing past another car on the yellow line to go and park on the front. I drove up next to him, put my bike in neutral......... jumped off, grabbed his phone and put it on the pavement.... got back on my bike real quick and sped off. I had no mirrors so I had to look around and saw that all the cars was passing him while he had to get out to get his phone on the pavement. .......

Thinking back to that day.............. I dont think I would live very long or even made it back to my bike if I had to do it nowadays.....

I'm sure your baby girl won't mind the whiplash

I had driver and passenger (both female) pulling into each other behind me while I was driving the other day  definitely no eyes.... or concentration on the road. I was poo-ing in my pants and just waiting for them to prang into me at the next traffic lights!!

And the handsfree thing... I almost pranged me car the other day trying to untangle the handsfree kit to take a call :( would have been waaaay safer to just finish the call with the phone in my hand...

Bluetooth! ;)

Except that mine is usually lost somewhere in my glove compartment, which kind of misses the point I guess. :)

EDITED for spelling.

if you yapping on you cellphone your are not concentrating on the road.all this might be fine on the open road, but try it in rush hour traffic.....:)

Have to agree on this one - if I talk on my phone (handsfree) while driving, there is a definite lack of attention to the road.

Regardless of how many people are going to scream that they are not affected, the fact that some people *are* is enough for this to make sense.

If you're going to be that distracted by talking on hands-free, then you probably shouldn't be talking to anyone in the car, listening to the radio or anything else.

Instead of idiocies like banning using a cellphone while driving we should simply be judging the driving itself. We already had laws for this, we did not need a new law specifically for cellphones. If someone can drive well while juggling, talking on a cellphone and drinking coffee, then let them do it. Other people barely manage to operate a vehicle with no distractions.

And Utah drivers are notorious.
