Lol funniest thing is I have 2 x 2TB 7200.11 hard drives (pulled from malfunctioning externals) that have total power up times of over 450 days and they are both 100%.

I've had 3 x 7200.12 seagate 1TB's fail on me
I've had 2 x 1TB samsung's fail on me
I've had 4 x 2TB WD green drives fail on me

I've had quite a few seagate externals fail on me when I use to use externals but those could be to more reasons than my internals
 
For those who want a summary of the last 20 posts; the link between HDD failures correlated with manufacturer (which has been shown to induce floods in Thailand) is inversely proportional to this latest price hike.
 
Darnit! I also have quite a few hdd purchases coming up soon, should buy asap by the sounds of things!!

Sadly prices are already being messed , just saw a brochure of a local shop selling 1TB 3.5" internal @ R799 incl
FML!!!!!!!!!!!


they were like R499 just a week ago :( F-U Payday for being so late this month :(

It seems some people don't understand numbers and it confuses them.

In reality 25% of the hard-drives in the world are made in Thailand. 60% of Western Digital's drives are made in Thailand. Western Digital is the largest drive company in the world.

This disruption in my opinion won't last past this year, however some of the local suppliers might push up the price to sell of the stock they bought at higher prices (which means we might have to wait longer to get lower prices).

Picked up a toshiba external 2b for R799 at game yesterday, was the last one.... lucky a guy that works their kept it for me :D

Its just having a discussion. Prices are going up nothing we can do about it so no harm in talking about other points concerning them. Seagate bought Samsungs factories as it Samsung is getting out of the hdd business. Does it influence South Korea as well cause that's where a lot of the factories are situated.
 
Just got an email from Seagate.

In short, they do not have any flooding in their facilities and have no problems regarding internal component supply or assembly. Some external items used in assembly's factories are flooded though and they expect that
industry demand will significantly outstrip supply at least for the December quarter and the supply disruption will continue for multiple quarters.

Yep, my sales gal at Matrix Computers said they have doubled in price.
.... and they are losing a lot of business because of it.
 
Oh noez, I actually have to delete stuff now. They can keep their vastly inflated prices and stick them where the sun don't shine.

Picked up 2 2tb Seagate green drives for R1089 each, retailing for R1600 as of Thursday. :)

Hehe, and I got mine in July. For about R800 each. :) :) That's why I say, if my drives get full before then, I'll just turn to the long-lost art of deleting stuff until this madness is over. Just wish I had bought some spares, I could have sold them to [-]suckers[/-] people who really need drives NOW, for the bargain price of R1400 each.
