Hard Drive Buffer Sizes

thanks guys. i was too lazy to go to a more recognised pc store. i wouldn't worry about other people on this site buying there cos most of them in all likeliness don't know about them.
 
so i took it back. the guy seemed reluctant to help/believe me. luckily another guy working there was more than helping, so they checked on the seagate website for the size of the cache on the drive. confirmed at 2mb, just like i told him. they said they were bought this drive from their suppliers on a false pretence - they were informed/under the impression that it was all starting at 8mb cache. so now they have to sort it out and i'll have to wait a few days to get my drive. just thought i'd let you guys know :)

Before buying hardware, its best to test whether the dude knows whats cooking with "How many gigahertz/horsepower does this harddrive have?":)
 
you could always ask them for the code and research it before buying

thus having no problems when u make the purchase

indeed. the thought hadn't crossed my mind cos i assumed that all hard drives now were at least 8mb cache. this one dude in particular looks a bit tardy but the others who are usually there know their stuff, but as luck had it, they weren't there when i bought the thing. will i see much difference between a 160gb and a 250gb performance wise, assuming they both have 8mb cache? that's the only reason i went for the 160gb cos i was told it offers better performance.
 
250 is probably faster, assuming it has denser bits, as opposed to an extra platter.
