Hard Drive Rating in Win7 Help plz

Hey all,

I have been messing around with the hard drive Indexed score in Win7 and continue to confuse myself more and more, I started by running a 200GB Segate drive 1.5Gbs (or whatever the speed is with that little jumper on) and got a 5.2, then running a 500GB Segate also 1.5gbs i believe, and get a 3.9.

then i Created a RAID 0 with x2 80GB WD 3Gbs (took the jumpers off) and got a 5.9. so i though i had struck the jack pot and pushed this score (excluding SSD guessing it will be ubar) to the limit then got to work and check the score on my work PC that is running 1x 160 WD and its also getting a 5.9 :( so now im sad.

anyone else messed around with this? what configs worked the best for you?

I buy my hard drives and plug them in and format them... I don't fiddle around with jumpers and stuff.... Do hard drives these days still have jumpers?
 
i got 5.9 with a 200 gig, a 1tb, a 250 gig :P

5.9 is the theoritical max for a "normal" hard drive.
 
5.9 on my Seagate 2.5" 250GB 5400RPM. Like 4cer said, it's the norm. @Garyvdh, AFAIK the jumpers are/used to be place to provide SATA 150 support for older mobos.
 
Im stuck on 6.1, but thats for 2x 150gb western digital raptors in raid 0... I honestly don't think that the windows 7 performance rating is that good at actually giving you a good indication of performance...
 
I think it has to do with the SATA limit more than the actual limit of the hard drives? But I am just guessing.
 
I had the same probs upgraded from a blue WD 350 GB to a black WD 1TB and the score remained the same.

Mine was on 7.4, but my drive doesn't have TRIM, so it's down to 5.9, but it's still faster than a normal drive. I use secure erase every now and again to get performance back, but then I have to download all the updates again, as I don't image my drive. I believe in a clean install. :)
 
So it seems to look like 5.9 is the Max rating for 7,200 rpm Drives, and 6.1 on 10,000 rpm Drives, The RAID 0 seems to not help according to windows,
(here i though it would give faster access times...)

SSD seem the way to go.

anyone running more that 1 SSD in there machine (eg. 1 for OS and 1 for storage)

also is there anyone running 1 SSD and 1 regular 7.200 Rpm Drive?

then is there anyone who has a rating for the new 6/Gbs drives?

can you plz post some screen shots of copy speeds??
