So my external WD Ultra just died a week before its 3 year warranty is ending. I still have the original packaging and till slip (I'm a hoarder).

What's the best way to go about getting it replaced? I verified the warranty on the WD website, but cant log a Return Material Authorisation request on the website.

Can I just go to the retailer I got it from and ask for a replacement?

It would be best to take it to where you bought it. It is possible that they wont swap it right away. They'll probably send it to their suppliers if they aren't the distributors. :)

you will need to take it back to where you bought it.. they will then do the required with whoever they bought it from etc, until the RMA is complete.. You won't get a new drive immediately and will have to wait for the RMA to go through.. But you may be lucky and the place you bought it from will replace it right away..

Jesus my hard just sank.

Most horrible 3 words you can possibly say.
