I have an 2 year old 250 GB harddrive that is faulty. I ran Seatools on it and it says I must return the drive. I bought the drive from a store which closed down. Seagate says I must return the drive to the Netherlands. I it worthwhile to do so and how much will the shipping cost be?

There is a Seagate place in Linbro Park you could try contact, the name escapes me now, used to be Storgate Africa

Was the drive brought into SA through the official channels? If it says you must return it to the Netherlands was it not maybe purchased overseas?

You need to enter in your serial number on Segates website and they will tell where to claim your warranty. It will also list the geographic region for the wholesaler that sold the drive.

If it was part of a machine (laptop for example) and is an OEM drive then the Seagate warranty checker will tell you to take it back to your supplier, the one who supplied you with the machine.
If it is registered as being sold in a different part of the world (grey import maybe) then I don't know how much luck you'll have with a warranty return.
