And no ... "drilling" is not wat they call it these days ;) ... I just installed a proper work desk in my home office ... 2 legs, and the back is against the wall ... completely DIY ... and the result was nice ... left me a good feeling :)

Looking for a new desk lamp for my PC stand/writing table, anywhere? Want something with those long arms and can turn to many angles.

Ghost, your question about the "best" PC R13k could buy has been answered... :)
Why still bugger around?

I believe it was :
P35 motherboard (choose own brand, best stability and OC performance)
Q9300 or Q6600 (6600 has nice big cache, 9300 is new 45nm) - you wanted a quad.
4GB Ram (Depending on OC, own choice, but generic is fine)
8800GT or 9800GTX (own choice, SLi is a stupid option choice when going for value for money)
22" wide screen. (Samsung/LG/ASUS.. YOUR choice)

Now throw in your OWN choice of extras , Case, PSU, DVD-RW, Mouse, Keyboard, Audio etc till you get to your 13K..
But I still believe that this is the best "high-end" gaming PC that you can build ATM.

Get your hardware from : Landmarkpc, PCInt, Prophecy, Zones...

They are just different manufacturers. The cards may have slightly different speeds, like the XFX ones are often factory overclocked, but essentially they are all the same.

so XFX sux more than the others?

No, factory overclocked to be faster than the rest.

Also, the cards will have different designs and look physically different.

It is usually the best just to go for the cheapest one...cos in the end they are all the same.

When considering screencards, cheaper = better, because they're all 99% the same..
Just look at their warranty, I'd prefer a 2 or 3 year warranty if I were you, it gives you better 2nd hand value later on.

Frag what did your system cost ?

As per the components in my sig :

Most of my PC was built last December, but I have older parts too. (screen, one HDD)
Mobo - R3000
CPU - R2500
Zalman 9700CNPS - R500
Screen - R3500 (18months ago)
Graphics - R2700
HDD's - R3500 odd (500GB and 1TB)
Ram - R1800
Mouse - R700
Keyboard - R600
Headset - R1400 (Razer Barracuda)
PSU + case - R1800 (Aerocool Zero Degree - which I'm selling to get an Antec nine hundred :) )
Extras - R500 odd

So that'd be - R20k

You can build a similarly performing system ATM for R13-14k.

So that'd be - R19.5k

You can build a similar system ATM for R13-14k.

You know where I can find a well-priced 226BW nowadays by any chance? IC seem to be the only place that still stock them :(

They are indeed.
Especially if you're not really into overclocking.
They tend to put together the best price/performance bundles, and then they make these VERY cheap by moving HUGE amounts of stock.
(For instance : If you buy 1000 ASUS G31 motherboards at the same time you might end up paying 60% of what other suppliers out there are paying...)

Hehe, dunno why Samsung stopped making them, the matt finish is SO much better than the glossy finish of the 2232GW (In my opinion)...

But no, I've got no idea where to find these, saw one advertised 2nd hand a while back though.

I think that only IC stocks them. Saw 226BW's on Sahara's price list, but as far as I know, it was an error and they had the 2232's too :(

Ya. Tell me about it.

I have one of each and the stand that comes with the 2232GW is another big drawback, cos you can't adjust the height AND there are no VESA mounting holes so you can't mount it anywhere :(

But I can't find a new 226BW anywhere and those that have them are reluctant to part with them 2nd hand!

Haha, yeah in a few years' time they'll be like a vintage '67 Ford Mustang :)

I'll NEVA give mine up, unless a bug bites me and I have the moolah to buy a nice 24" or something similar :)

You see! That is the problem! I paid R2999 for the 2232GW - if only I had waited, the 226BW's are now going for that much at IC again :(

Then again, I've heard 9600GT-SLi setup smokes a 9800GTX performance wise?

Some evidence: http://www.gamepyre.com/hardwared.html?aid=964&p=7

But if you say 9800 is better the 9600-sli? Which is right?
And should I go the Vista 64bit route instead of 32bit? I'm going to get 4GB of RAM and hate the fact that 32bit will only give me 3.*GB :( But my worries with 64bit is incompatibility with games and apps, and drivers...

Again, Which is right?

I'm getting dizzy of confusion with weighing things like the above
